Sunday Morning Praise


In the Secret Place of God

He that dwelleth in the secret place of God, Most High,
When the days of biting bitterness and travail draweth nigh,
With the crimsoned lintel over and the sheltering solace sure,
Doth abide beneath the shadow of Omnipotence, secure.

He a fortress is and refuge unto all who trust;
From the fowler’s snare and pestilence He ransometh the just;
His truth is shield and buckler, so the potent promise rings,
And there’s rest, delight and safety ’neath the cover of His wings.

He that said it: “I will answer him who calls on Me;
Will honor and deliver him; from trouble set him free;
Because his love is on Me still, My name to glorify,
I will save and satisfy him, and will give him life on high.”

Art thou dwelling in this hiding, underneath the sprinkled blood?
Is thy soul, by grace abiding “In the secret place of God?”
There is fullness there, and sweetness, all thy pow’rs find full employ,
Gladness, comforting, completeness, peace, and everlasting joy.

The Soul Cheering Promise

We know not the trials before us, but Jesus takes thought for them all,
And trusting the aid of His counsel, we never, no, never can fall;
We know not the trials before us, or what on the morrow may be,
But sweet is the soul cheering promise, “My grace is sufficient for thee.”

We know not the trials before us, but why; should we tremble or fear?
The arm of the Lord will protect us, the ark of His mercy is near;
We know not the trials before us, or what our temptations may be,
But stronger than death is the promise, “My grace is sufficient for thee.”

We know not the trials before us, the sorrows and cares we shall meet,
But O there’s a refuge in Jesus, though surges may break at our feet;
How blessed that refuge forever where safe from the storm we shall be,

Then cleave to the Savior, yes, cleave to Him, whatever the conflict may be,

Father, I Know That All My Life

Father, I know that all my life is portioned out for me,
And the changes that are sure to come I do not fear to see;
But I ask Thee for a present mind intent on pleasing Thee.
I ask Thee for a thoughtful love, through constant watching wise,
To meet the glad with joyful smiles, and to wipe the weeping eyes;
And a heart at leisure from itself, to soothe and sympathize.

I would not have the restless will that hurries to and fro,
Seeking for some great thing to do or secret thing to know;
I would be treated as a child, and guided where I go.
Wherever in the world I am, in whatsoe’er estate,
I have a fellowship with hearts to keep and cultivate;
And a work of lowly love to do for the Lord on whom I wait.

So I ask Thee for daily strength, to none that ask denied,
And a mind to blend with outward life while keeping at Thy side;
Content to fill a little space, if Thou be glorified.
And if some things I do not ask In my cup of blessing be,
I would have my spirit filled the more with grateful love to Thee,
More careful, not to serve Thee much, but to please Thee perfectly.

There are briers besetting every path that call for patient care;
There is a cross in every lot, and an earnest need for prayer;
But a lowly heart that leans on Thee is happy anywhere.
In a service which Thy will appoints there are no bonds for me;
For my inmost heart is taught the truth that makes Thy children free.
And a life of self renouncing love is a life of liberty.

Day by Day

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best —
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day, the Lord Himself is near me
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me,
He Whose Name is Counselor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
“As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,”
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in every tribulation
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till I reach the promised land.

When God spoke unto Noah, and told him to build the ark,
