It has been a long time since I posted on TOL for any significant time periods, back when I was godless, libertarian socialist.

It was one of my first message boards and a good place, even if I was a little out of place. Since I left I have changed quite a bit, I'm still very libertarian/decentralist but I've become a lot more conservative and although I wouldn't call myself a Xtian I very much lean towards it over secularism and athiesm.

Anyway, Knight kindly agreed to change my name from Nugnostic to Wessex man as it is a much better fit. I hope to be around here for a long time to come. Hello Again!

Sounds like a nice progression. I hope TOL played at least some small part in moving you in the right direction.

Oh, and it's... Christian. Not Xtian. :)

So what led to this major change in your viewpoints? :idunno:

So what led to this major change in your viewpoints? :idunno:

In some ways my viewpoints didn't change as much as were added to. I was long a libetarian and decentralist socialist and I'm still a Distributist/Georgist. I simply developed a definite conservative or libertarian-conservative streak mainly from reading such authors as Edmund Burke, De Maistre, Hayek, Robert Nisbet, Albert.J.Nock and Russell Kirk.

My conservative is definitely a specific kind, namely decentralist, anti-authoritarian, non-interventionist and very importantly English.

For us dummies can you elaborate on what this means? :idunno:

Ok, then what's the air-speed velocity of an unladdened swallow?

Georgism means just a belief in the ideas of Henry George and similar thinkers. It means I wish to reduce most taxes and implement a land-value tax.

Distributism
is the official social teaching of the Catholic church and was elaborated on by many thinkers, particularly G.K Chesterton and Hilaire Belloc. It can be summed in the saying the problem with capitalism is there are too few not too many capitalists.

Georgism is more a means and distributism is more the general philosophy.

Basically all these are fancies ways of saying I believe in a more decentralised and libertarian economy with more property ownership for the average family and less large, hierarchical, distant institutions, public, corporate or private, having control and I want to use libertarian and decentralist means to further this.

African or European?;)

East Dorset. Near Wimbourne. I currently reside in Sydney, Australia though but I hope to return as soon as possible.

Ah, Wimborne. Lovely town, one of my best friends lives there as a matter of fact. I'm from Ringwood, myself, not far from Bournemouth.

Hoorah for the Deep South! :)
