Top reasons why it's great to be a homeschooled high schooler.

  1. Time to pursue the hobbies and talents you enjoy.
  2. Not dealing with cliques, popular crowds, and biased teachers- saving school time for learning, and afterschool time for whatever you want.
  3. School is done in 1/3 of the time.
  4. When you're stuck on a subject, you stop and learn it.
  5. When you homeschool, you're able to devote time to cultivating relationships with family, friends, and a loving God- instead of just saying hi at the end of a busy day
  6. Freedom to seek out alternative education, ie...online coursework, independant study (including travel, work study, service learning)
  7. Dual credit college credit-which isn't limited to just 12th grade jump start/a.p credits
  8. Art & music classes by real artists & musicians~not people who have a degree in it and don't actually do it outside of the classroom
  9. On the job training
  10. Alternative sports like karate, archery, horsemanship, gymnastics that the public/private school may not offer
  11. Opportunity to volunteer in many different ways
  12. Language classes by native speakers.
  13. Time is not wasted by having to hang around the school building all day - they can finish the required work in a fraction of that time and have time to do other important things.
  14. Take the courses you want.
  15. The ability to decide whether you do more than is required.
  16. The ability to schedule your own day.
  17. The ability to enjoy your mornings. Not having to hurry through breakfast and rush out to the bus-stop by 6 (then stand in the cold)
  18. The ability to have the afternoon relatively free.
  19. The ability not to have to wait for teachers to lecture, other people to 'get it', wait on anyone to read anything.
  20. The ability to read real books during school, as many as you want about whatever you want and have it count for credit.
  21. The ability to have many, many sets of friends -- the homeschoolers, the Christian school kids, the independent school kids *and* the public school kids. Rather than being restricted to what ever the school has to offer.
  22. The ability to skip a grade, start a class and adapt it,
  23. The ability to work on hobbies during the time that one would normally be in school.
  24. The ability to pursue & follow their interests.
  25. The ability to start a business. (and operate it during regular business hours)
  26. Not as much pressure to dress a certain way -- you can school in your jammies if mom and dad think that's okay.
  27. The ability to be friends with people of all ages, from adult to younger kid....and not be limited by time and social pressure to just the kids within one year of age as yourself.
  28. The ability to do an internship
  29. The ability to take a school field trip to the Caribbean, Pyramids, Williamsburg, etc. (for more than 3 hours)
