Genesis 1 made more sensible and scientific

created and made are not synonymous
They are used interchangeably elsewhere in the Old Testament. One author will use the word created and the next author in the Old Testament refers to the same event using a different word. We do that in English also where we have several words that can be used interchangeably.

In any case it would appear from Genesis 1 31 that evil did not exist at the end of the six day creation week. Everything was very good.

Genesis 1:1-8

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

One of the good things I learned while attending a parochial school was that God is perfect, therefore everything He does is perfect, therefore His word is perfect.

Although a good start, it is the second phrase that needs to be considered.

"everything He does is perfect"

Either the heaven and earth that God created in Genesis 1:1 was perfect or it was not.

Is God a perfect God?

Are God's works perfect? or at the minimum, not a complete mess, ie, without form and void.

The following should answer that question for those who believe God's word is true

Deuteronomy 32:4

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Yes, everything that was made in the six days was very good.
As was everything created in the six days very good.

Not sure where you are goung with that but it seems you want to add a distinction between words in order to accommodate some form of materialism / evolutionism? Even Moses used the words 'made' and 'created' interchangeably. Everything God made in the Heavens and the earth. .. and everything in them was made in six days.

I think day the angels we're created on day 1.
But, the serpent in the garden would have been some time after day 7 it would seem.

Chapter and verse?

Bonus question: If the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was created on the third day, and everything that God created on days 1-6 was "good" only (Gen 1:31), then does that mean that the knowledge of evil is good?

The tree was good. The tree represented the law. The law is good.

If the tree represented the law, then why wasn't it called the Tree of the Law?

How about a rational discussion?

The tree was good. The tree represented the law. The law is good. Which of those three statements do you disagree with?

The tree wasn't called the Tree of the Law, it was called the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Evil is not good.
