The abyss. If he wins, he binds the party even tighter to the racists and science deniers.
Has Trump said much about science issues? If he has I've missed it. Either way, I don't know how fair that is because do you think he can beat Clinton/Sanders on the strength of racists and science deniers? That seems unlikely.

If he loses, he hastens the party's slide into irrelevance as people ask if they are capable of nominating a President anymore.
Maybe. Or, the GOP can say to voters that they tried their way with Trump and it went badly so let's get back to a different kind of candidate next time. It might have to get worse before it gets better for the Republicans.

Or maybe the party splinters. Frankly, I'd like that because I want more options as a voter, not this two-party sham of a system.

Well, he's bought into quite a few conspiracy theories. There aren't a lot of conspiracy theorists who buy into science. And I believe he called climate change a hoax.

They've had several pretty disastrous nomination processes. This certainly continues that trend. And when they decide that they have to chance, the party's voters just drag them back into the mud. I can't see any reason to believe that they'll be able to do better in the future. Maybe having a president of a slightly different shade will tone down some of the worst elements, but I wouldn't count on it.

If they split, they'll just become more irrelevant. You won't want to vote for them if that happens. The Democrats, I think, are more likely to split, but I'd say that's quite a few cycles out. And that's a huge speculation, contingent on other huge speculations. But you're not likely to end up with more than two viable choices.

I voted for Cruz and cannot call myself a Trump supporter. I'm very fortunate to live in Texas where no matter what I do, this state's electoral college votes will go to the Republican. That affords me the luxury of being able to skip the vote in November.

However, having said that, if that were not the case, I would vote in whatever way was the most effective toward preventing Hillary Clinton from becoming the President of the United States. There's way too much at stake and if the ONLY decent thing that Trump does is NOT to place a leftist on the Supreme Court, whatever other insanity he might pull will pale in comparison to the disaster that would occur if Hillary gets to pick Scalia's replacement.

If you don't like abortion and want fewer babies murdered, vote against Hillary.
If you like the right to own guns, vote against Hillary.
If you don't like ObamaCare, vote against Hillary.
If you don't want web sites like this one to be declared "hate speech", vote against Hillary.
Etc, etc, etc.

Incidentally, I don't think anyone really quite gets what's happening with Trump. This is not an ordinary election and Trump isn't winning because of his policies, nor will he lose because of his so called "negatives". There's only one negative that matters and that's being a politician.

I predict that Trump wins by land slide proportions. 40+ states.

Yep. I'm not sure about 49 states like Reagan, but it won't be close. He will win California, as well as Texas. Illegal aliens or not. Well, Texas has the voter ID law, so the illegal aliens will have to go somewhere else to vote.

I think that's exceptionally unlikely. The state's racial majority was the first group he attacked in his announcement. If you think they're going to back Trump, you're dreaming.

This is just the sort of "politics as usual" type of thinking that I really do believe just isn't going to hold true this time around. I think this Trump thing is akin to the Holland Tulip bulb craze and the Salem which hunts. It's a mass movement that isn't inherently political in nature. I'm not sure exactly what it is but, for good or for bad, I think this Trump train is going to prove unstoppable.

The other wild card in the mix is the FBI. If Hillary wins the nomination and then gets indicted, Trump wins all 50 states by double digits.

You think people whose ethnic heritage is from Mexico are going to vote for a guy who called them rapists? I think that's, as I said, very unlikely. It's not politics. It's basic human nature not to like someone who insults you.

I don't think I understand the comparison.

I wouldn't count on that. I don't think she'll be indicted, and I don't think he'd win 50 states even if she did.

Even that idiot Bill O'Reilly got it right tonight. Trump is the GOP nominee of the people because when given a large majority to stop Obama and the Democrats, they didn't. I need to look at Paul Ryan a bit. He should be out in November. I'll be sure to help push that movement along, just like Boehner in Ohio.

The GOP was given a mandate to stop The Democrats. They didn't.

He didn't call them rapists. He did say that rapists and other Mexican criminal come across the boarder but that isn't the same thing because it happens to be true.

Besides, illegal aliens won't be voting - for the most part.

I don't think I understand the comparison.
That's why you think demographic politics is going to matter.

Not that it won't matter at all but only that is won't matter enough to stop Trump winning by huge margins.

I wouldn't count on that. I don't think she'll be indicted, and I don't think he'd win 50 states even if she did.
No one is counting on it. They'd be stupid to count on it. But if an indictment comes, say hello President TRUMP, whether he wins 50 states or not.

Trump said "who is doing the raping?". His point is the left does not want it to stop. Think about it. They want an issue, so they can corrupt the world. Trump thinks those guilty should be punished.

This also shows conservatives did not lose. They picked somebody they think will stop the liberals in the democrat and republican party.

aCW must be devastated...

I look at the glass as half full not half empty Art. I'm very pleased in this morally depraved society that we live in that a Christian like Ted Cruz made such a strong showing.
It's of no surprise to me that the degenerates (Libertarians, democrats, pretend Christians, etc.) have bonded together to make the orange haired- pathologically lying- casino owner the potential Republican Party Presidential nominee.

I'll go into further detail in my WHMBR! Part 4 thread when I post "An open letter to Senator Ted Cruz".

Well, the people Trump's generally pandering to often don't make a very consistent distinction between Hispanics who are here legally and those who aren't. And I don't think there was supposed to be a lot of nuance in what he said.

That's why you think demographic politics is going to matter.

Trump's entire campaign is 100% demographic politics.

Not that it won't matter at all but only that is won't matter enough to stop Trump winning by huge margins.

If Trump wins, it will be by the power of a voting base that is very white, and very male, in a country increasingly including people who don't fit that description. He knows this, and he's playing to it. That's the most cynical kind of demographic politics out there.
