He's a 70 year old real estate billionaire from Manhattan, he's had his lunch handed to him plenty of times. He's been up and down and had epic failures and some successes.
If he cared about his dignity he never would have run for the Presidency.
He cares about us, he cares about our future. That's why we put him there. He's the one guy that had nothing to gain and everything to lose. We knew he was a brawler and he wouldn't give up.
We didn't think he was perfect. We knew he was real.

It's actually a bit of a hopeful sign that he's shoving Bannon to the back of the bus and started listening to the adults in the room. Ivanka and Jared seem to have a better grip on reality.
Bannon led Trump into what has become the worst 'first 100 days' of any presidency. Trump is all about the brand and 35% approval rating is not the brand he wants on his presidency. He's enough of a pragmatist to see that and he will follow the numbers.
Trump has had the best 100 days and it's not even 100 yet. The most productive 100 days in history. Great job Donald !!!

The point is that now that he's demoted Bannon and stopped drinking that cool aid, his political fortunes (and his ratings) are making a turnaround. He will follow the ratings.
It's going to go lower.
It's tough love. An addict doesn't thank you when you take his drugs away.

Or whoever happens to serve his purposes at the time. He's had so many positions on abortion, taxation, etc. it's hard to keep up with them all.
In the same sense that Trump University was a real university. He's a fraud and a hustler. But he could still have a successful presidency, if he doesn't start believing his own press releases.
So a fraud and a hustler could be a successful President.
