My daughter just finished the book Color Me Dark
It is a book in the Dear America series.
Have you ever heard of the Great Migration? Not only have I never heard of that, but I also had never heard of the Red Summer. Particularly the Chicago Riot of 1919
Well, I have never seen one textbook that mentioned either of these events. Considering that the population of African-Americans in Detroit alone increased drastically (6000 in 1910 to 120,000 by 1929) one would think that that would be an important tidbit of American History.
It is interesting to be able to use a children's novel to learn so much.
