Barbarian, regarding Trump's ties to Russian organized crime:
There's no law against Trump being buds with criminals.

I should hope not. He was friends with the Clintons for years.

No law against him being friends with people that white nationalists hate, either.

But the last thing Trump needs is the revelation that his friends in the NRA were also involved with the Russian mafia.

Unlike many articles flagged by users, this news comes from an established news outlet.

The report cites two sources informed on the matter who “spoke on condition of anonymity because Mueller’s investigation is confidential and mostly involves classified information,” McClatchy reports.

According to these sources the FBI is investigating if the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank, Alexander Torshin, illegally gave money to the National Rifle Association to assist the organization in electing Donald Trump.

The amount of evidence the FBI has in this matter is unknown.

McClatchy also notes that Congress has had an eye on Torshin as well:

The House and Senate Intelligence Committees and Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee also have taken an interest in Torshin as part of their parallel inquiries into Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections.

Torshin has attended several NRA conferences dating back to at least 2014, the New York Times reports, and has built a relationship with the NRA, hosting two dinners for NRA top-ranking delegates when they visited Russia in 2015 according to McClatchy DC.

The article also notes the Times’ report that Torshin spoke with Donald Trump Jr. at an NRA convention and attempted to establish contact between Putin and then-candidate Trump.

It is important to note that McClatchy reported that it could not discover how much evidence the FBI has on this matter or how long the investigation has been going on.

And this may have been the opening that got Mueller interested:

Kushner failed to disclose outreach from Putin ally to Trump campaign
WASHINGTON — President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, failed to disclose what lawmakers called a "Russian backdoor overture and dinner invite" involving a banker who has been accused of links to Russian organized crime, three sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.

An email chain described Aleksander Torshin, a former senator and deputy head of Russia's central bank who is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as wanting Trump to attend an event on the sidelines of a National Rifle Association convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in May 2016, the sources said. The email also suggests Torshin was seeking to meet with a high-level Trump campaign official during the convention, and that he may have had a message for Trump from Putin, the sources said.

As for "defending the indefensible," I'm sure there's a heated conversation going in the White House right now between Melania and "The Donald" as to why his own personal lawyer would send a $138 000 check to Stormy Daniels - one month before the 2016 Election!

I would rather vote for a candidate like JFK who shared a whore with one of the leading Mob figures of the time than vote for someone who sold 20% of our precious Uranium deposits to the Russians in exchange for several million dollars!

The last thing Hillary needed was the public knowing about all of the money which the Russians donated to the Clinton foundation when she arranged the transfer of 20% of the US uranium reserves to the Russians.

Just another example of just how far conservative Christians are willing to compromise their principles in a futile attempt to rationale their support for this President!

The American public is not interested in "The Donald's" repeated attempts to further "demonize" Hillary being used as a diversion to draw attention away from his woeful lack of negotiating skills and temperament to cope with the present!

I just like to mention Hillary and all her dastardly deeds just to show how clueless the demos are.

What a choice! A Socialist or a known criminal!

It is amazing just how far the Democratic party has fallen since JFK.

If the Trump presidency was a huge success, going from one success to the next, his supporters would be singing those praises - not forced to resurrect and demonize past adversaries as a substitute for his abysmal performance!

Hey, he did manage to get the law changed to give him a huge tax break (which the rest of us will be paying for, for years to come). That's an accomplishment, isn't it?

If "The Donald" didn't have a good reason not to release his income tax to the public, he has one now!

If Trump was paying a "hefty" amount in income tax every year, you can be assured that he would want he would want the public to know that he was paying his fair share!

If the President doesn't trust the American people why should they trust him?
