ECT The Grace of God. Is it merited or unmerited?

The scriptures are replete with passages that declare the Grace of God to be merited, none, when understanding context is in play, to be unmerited. Reform commentators responsible for miscontruing scripture for the benefit preserving grace to be unmerited and that they must do for the purpose of defending their pet doctrines they have bought into that would otherwise find no home in rational reasoning, all summed up in "TULIP".

Once snared, the inability to share the gospel of the good news, the intentions of God for having created mankind, with its adherents is nearly impossible. They cannot reason out the elementary teachings of Jesus Christ, having been stripped of the possibilities by the law of the flesh: "Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God" Hebrews 6:1 (NASB) simply because they have been convinced, their denials notwithstanding, going on to maturity is necessary. They have been stripped of reasoning powers without realizing they had none up front that they might have more had begun to put them into practice: "So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him." Luke 8:18 (NASB)

So, that said by Jesus, where must introspection come into play for him who "confesses" Christ? Paul says: "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" 2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV) Like the man said: "There is theology and there is faith. I don't think we have to have the same theology, but if our faith is based on *wrong* theology, then I believe we are better off not having faith at all." What do you think?

If forgiveness is by repentance and repentance by the will of man given him by God, unless reprobation is determined, then faith to believe for it is of the same substance as the grace of God..

Getting what you deserve, whether reward or punishment, is justice. It is not grace. God added righteousness to the works of the Israelites. They did not deserve it. That makes it grace.

I was given righteousness for accepting reconciliation as an enemy of God. I did not deserve it. That makes it grace. Different gospels, same result.

But you wanting to be self righteous will be judged at your request, and Moses in whom you boast will be your accuser.

Yet more confusion. Grace is based on merit, but not of the sinner. There was a price to pay and that was paid by the Son. This is the merit by which grace is provided by the Father, through the Son and applied by the Spirit of Grace.

This disgusting doctrine of unmerited grace has deep roots. It has been repeated for centuries by the unredeemed, unregenerate and unenlightened.

It seems to me you are confusing merit with Christ's covenant-keeping obedience unto His substitutional death.

Grace is far greater than merit, for it is a Divine attribute; as is Justice . . neither a reward or punishment according to works. John 1:14

This loud boasting of "merited" grace comes from reading 19th-20th century holiness teachers

General William Booth tells how he would spend hours and hours on his knees begging for sanctification, then he read "Christ is our sanctification" That's what the devil does he has you begging God for things which He has already given freely in Christ.

We receive by the merits of our Lord Jesus.

Grace is unmerited and anyone who says differently is a deceiver. Our only claim to receiving God's grace is our great need. Those who are already self-righteous have no need of it.

Where did I mention anything about "works"? And yet works can be assumed in the afterwards of believing, can't it. . . genius?

"And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised. . . . . :" Romans 4:11

By HIS faith in God, the faith of his uncircumcisized soul, was Abraham chosen. . . genius.(KJV)

Works after is just as big a mistake as works before it annuls grace just the same.

Romans 5

18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.

If you don't believe, you will not be saved.

Merit is working to earn something the opposite of a free gift.
