Ever realize one day that you've been singing the lyrics wrong to a particular song? Or ever know of somebody who did? What was it?

And if you haven't, what's a song who's lyrics might be funny or maybe even more appropriate if it were sung differently?

When my husband was little, they used to sing, "Bringing in the Sheaves" but he always thought the lyrics were, "Bringing in the Sheets."

I think Fleetwood Mac's "You can go your own way" would be more appropriate if the lyrics were, "You can grow your own weed."

"Ah got red dirt stains
on my boots and janes.
Callist fangers
from my guitar strangs.
Dumb as a toad
in a tall pine tree,
But I got boots
an' I got janes."- Miranda Lambert

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wrench like me.
I want soy sauce. but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
Aunt Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangerous toys and snares
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

Sorry, but that's what I heard, believe it or not, and it was in the middle of the night when half asleep. :idunno:

There is a word for this: malapropisms, taken from Mrs. Malaprop, a character in Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s play, The Rivals.

For songs, Rock the Casbah probably holds the record for this.

For everyday language, think Yogi Berra, although what he was saying was readily understood, so not really all he is known for saying were malaprops per se. :AMR:

When I was a kid listening to Roy Orbison, I actually thought that this is what he was saying:

"Love hurts, love stars, th' moon and Mars......"

I couldn't make any sense out of that song.

That Blue song from Eiffel 65.

It's supposed to be : "I'm blue da ba dee dabba daee."

I always hear " I'm blue, I will beat up a guy, I will beat up a guy... I will beat up a guy."
