True. In fairness to me, that was never my objection to the idea. My objection was always based on scripture. But after more study, I changed my mind on it.

I support the OT law against homosexuality, but let's be real, it would almost never be enforced. How often do we have two witnesses to such things?

If a child is found drunk that's not hard to prove at all.

I don't know, actually. I mean, I know there's a small minority of parents who would just completely neglect their children, but most wouldn't. Its also worth noting that in some European countries (ie. Italy) everyone drinks wine at a young age yet drunkenness is not a big problem. So, I guess I'd say, if the child was actually seriously harmed, but that's going to be hard to prove.

What assumption did I make?

As for seat belt laws, this is honestly the same problem I have with liberals, making things illegal because of what might happen in the future. My family doesn't own me, I own me, and frankly it isn't yours or anyone else's business what choices I make in that regard. Of course, you or anyone else has every right to comment negatively but that's it. I view helmet laws in the same regard. Did you think I supported those?

Here's something I don't get. In Deuteronomy, there's a verse that condemns those who add anything to or subtract anything from God's Law. You think the penal law of Moses is applicable today, so why do you add things to it? And personally, while I think there is room for more mercy in the New Covenant, I think its absolutely immoral to create laws that weren't even there.

With drinking, we need to distinguish between two different types of people.

There are people who are actually kids, and then there are people my age.

I don't have a problem with people who are actually kids being prevented from buying. As you say, they don't know how much is too much, and they are too young to actually consent. Although I do have some issues with the enforcement of such a law (I'm not exactly thrilled with the idea of having to show ID and I think its a 4th amendment violation if the government is requiring it rather than the store.)

On the other hand, a 19 year old such as myself IS an adult. Now, I understand you can say a 25 year old has more life experience, and a 35 year old more than that, and a 55 year old more than that, and so forth. But at the end of the day, since I am an adult, its absurd that I can't buy alcohol (I don't actually want to, but that's not the point.)

Sorry. I probably look really stupid after that last comment. I made a mistake. I didn't mean "getting drunk" I meant "having a drink." Its not a sin for someone to have a drink even if they are underage.

I didn't say anything about drunkenness, just getting drunk.

I don't think drunkenness was ever a crime even in the Old Testament, but it is certainly sinful. But, drunkenness is a sin whether you're under 21 or not.

As for seatbelt wearing, of course that is about protecting you from yourself. I don't see how you could possibly argue with that.

Yes, I know why those things are illegal. Because the government believes it has a right to protect you from yourself (which really is the same reason drugs are illegal, but I didn't want to go there just yet.)

And how in the world does this not apply to cops who hand out tickets for people who don't wear seatbelts and so forth?

I agree with you WRT prostitution, with the caveat that I don't see how it being illegal has to do with anything. Not everything that is illegal is immoral. Mind you, I agree that prostitution is immoral, of course, but that has nothing to do with it being illegal. Its not immoral to sell machine guns, or to drive without a seatbelt on, or to drink while under 21, yet all of the above are illegal.
