What is your definition of racism?

The right doesn't see racism anywhere, except when it's from blacks.

If someone does wrong by you in some form or fashion, do you remain puzzled as to the cause or do you blame race? How often do you interpret the words and actions of a man in light of his race ? This is racism.

Blacks see racism in whites and whites (right wing?) don't think there is much of it. I analyze my own interactions with blacks to find racism and dont see it. Perhaps I am blind, but if there is racism, it's not intentional.

I see bitterness and resentment of white people solely because they are white based upon racial history in this nation and the wrong headed notion of current white society being just like their ancestors because whites will always "act white".

This thinking is only among the most ignorant subset of black culture and not a majority.

My temporary conclusion is that most blacks are not any more racist than whites and that white racism is almost also exclusively seen among the most ignorant among us. I hold to the possibility of more white racism but it is likely in the subconscious realm as I and many other whites I know don't see racism in themselves .

My first awareness of racism was during the 1950s when I was growing up as a white kid on an Indian reservation.

I invited one of my friends to catch the first showing of a Tarzan movie at the local theater, only to discover that 'Indians' weren't allowed to attend the Friday night first showing at the reservation movie hall.

They had to wait till the Saturday matinee, from which I was barred.

My second awareness of racism was during the 1950s when I was growing up as a white kid on an Indian reservation.

Whenever we played.....'traditional games', I was always relegated to the role of Custer. Can't imagine why, I did such a good Geronimo. :mmph:

AS to my definition of racism, I'd have to liken it to the words of Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart;

I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description hard-core pornography racism; and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so. But I know it when I see it!

i was pondering that

for urban black americans, access to swimming opportunities usually means municipal swimming pools, as the rivers that flow through most cities are not fit for recreation

for those blacks who have access to clean rivers or beaches, I would suspect a higher degree of swimming ability

it would make an interesting study

do you have any idea how prevalent recreational swimming is in africa?
No, I have no idea how prevalent swimming is in Africa. However, from anecdotal knowledge, most Caribbean folks know how to swim. Although there are some who don't. Which perplexes me to no end, but some report they don't know how to swim.

I've been swimming in the water as long as I could remember, even before I could swim properly, I wasn't afraid of the water, and could go out in the deep and make my way back. Pops taught me how to float before age 6. I didn't learn "proper" swimming technique until late in what Americans would consider middle school.

Not anymore! Homosexuals and transgenders are higher up on the "protected class" chart! :p Remember when former NBA player Tim Hardaway said something negative about homosexuals? The SJW goons destroyed him.

Good point.

The Irish certainly had it rough in the 19th century.

We were virtually slaves to the Brits, with some of us put on the auction block in the South.

What's science got to do with this, racist? A black man made an observation about black people including himself based on his own experience. Whitey (you) comes along and tells him he's dumb and needs to get with science. Who Do You Think You Are?

I have never talked about my race, so you are just hoping to get some random hits there.

And I didn't call anyone dumb, that was you adding your own imaginings to what I said. My comments meant 'uneducated' for both of you, and it seems I hit the mark with you at least, given your response.

(And are you suggesting that black people can't be racist? DO you even know what 'racist' actually means? From your wild accusations, I guess you don't.)

It proves that photo is not the face of the poor. It's the face of young, poor, inner city blacks.

I see TV images of whites rioting in the US. Are they really blacks in disguise? Where the inner city populations are black, it is the blacks rioting. Where they are whites, it is the whites rioting. In the US, poor inner city populations are disproportionately black. Economics, not race, is the original, primary driver.

The statistics are against race being a factor of poverty. And by poverty, I mean actual poverty- not having an absence of cable in one's house

According to the demographics, the ratio of black and white people currently in shelters right now are 1 in 1.
40% White, 40% Black, 10% Hispanic, 10% Other.

There are over 560,000 homeless people in America, and 'specialty groups' make you focus on a few rather than the whole- that just doesn't do, people are self-righteous and exploitative in their own agenda.
If you went into a shelter with such a thing, it wouldn't matter if it was blacks or whites, you would be universally thrown out.

That's a bit of the irony with the current culture right now- there's a detachment from reality and society isn't collectively inclined to reconnect.

Do you think it's possible for an actual racist person not to recognize their own racism?

No. Racism, is a conscious, deliberate act. What others perceive as racism in such a person is ignorance and social conditioning.

There are far fewer blacks than whites though.

Blacks see racism everywhere, except from themselves

Everything is racist in today's world, because people want to make everything about race. So of course when a white man chooses his own interest he's just stamped, branded, and demonstrated against.

What a ridiculous state of affairs- when a person must render unto others to not be seen as something.

Whites rioting in inner cities in America ? Show me. I can believe it in Britain though .

The answer is conditioning. Swimming is a cultural summer tradition among most whites. Not so much in the black community. Swimming can be scary and it takes social cues to alleviate that fear.

Hi, actually that first line above is about something else related to this question: What is racebaiting?
