Now in this context Paul is addressing Gentile Believers, however all the Elect/Chosen of God [jews included] are without Christ in a Spiritual dead state by nature. However they're not out of Christ, for they were Chosen in Him before the foundation Eph 1:4

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

They were preserved in Jesus Christ before being Called Jude 1:1

1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

Even though God's Elect by nature are without Christ and born in a Spiritually dead state, yet every one of them were Eternally Sanctified Jude 1:1 by God the Father, set apart for His Holy Purpose in Christ Jesus.
