The Work and the Person of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead. The Godhead consist of three person. The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. They are all equal and present in each other, however, their works are different.

The Father remains in heaven.
The Son comes into the world as the savior.
The Holy Spirit glorifies the work of the Son and works in the life of the believer.

It is heresy to attribute to the Father that which has been accomplished by the Son. It is also heresy to attribute to the Holy Spirit that which has been accomplished by the Son.

Jesus spoke frequently about the Holy Spirit.

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself (nor will one that posses the Spirit) but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. HE SHALL GLORIFY ME; for he shall receive of mine (the Gospel) and shall show it unto you" John 16:13, 14.

On the day of Pentecost when the Gospel first came into the world in the power of the Holy Spirit, it was a new manifestation of the Holy Spirit that had never happened before. All of the disciples were in the upper room. Suddenly there came a sound from heaven as a mighty rush of wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven tongues of fire and it sat upon each one of them and many began to speak in tongues and every man there heard them speak in his own language, Acts 2:1-13. What did they hear them speak about? They heard them speak about, "The wonderful works of God" Acts 2:11.

The wonderful works of God is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Peter, being filled with the Holy Spirit, stood up and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the very first time. What was the results? 3,000 Jews heard and believed Peter's Gospel and were baptized by the Holy Spirit and were saved, Acts 2:37-42. Later on 5,000 more heard the Gospel and were saved, Acts 4:4.

This miraculous work of the Holy Spirit must have turned Jerusalem upside down. Some of those that were converted to Christ had participated in the crucifixion, Acts 2:36. There has never been an event like this in the history of the world. Pentecost gave birth to the New Testament church and was the beginning of the persecutions.

There is no more mention of the Pentecost event in the New Testament, which leads one to believe that the event, the tongues of fire, the mighty wind, people speaking in foreign languages, 8,000 saved, was not the main thing. That the main thing was the message that was conveyed by the Holy Spirit to the disciples in the upper room, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The disciples did not go into Jerusalem to talk about their miraculous Pentecost event. The scripture says that they went everywhere preaching the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the Gospel, Acts 4:33.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are close companions. Where the Gospel is preached the Holy Spirit is there to convict people of their need to be saved by Jesus Christ. This is what Paul meant when he said, "So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (which is the Gospel) Romans 10:17.

Pentecostalism which has derived its name from the Pentecost event is a false doctrine and a false religion. The whole purpose of the Pentecost event was to reveal the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the disciples and to others that were there. God successfully did that by the Holy Spirit just like Jesus said that he would do, John 16:13.

Most Pentecostals don't even know what the Gospel is much less believe it. Pentecostalism is a glorification of the flesh. Pride is never higher than when someone believes that they have had some sort of religious experience, such as speaking in tongues, or has had some sort of revelation that no one else has had.

I have known and have witnessed to many Pentecostals down through the years. If they don't have some sort of an emotional experience they don't feel that they are saved. They are kind of like Catholics. If the Catholic does not take the sacraments they do not feel saved. What this amounts to is that they are trusting in something other than Jesus Christ for their salvation, which means that they may not be saved.

The disciples did not glory in their religious experience that they had in the upper room. What they did glory in was the message that they received from the Holy Spirit, which was the Gospel. Pentecostals have turned the Pentecost event into a circus of the flesh. Regardless, God accomplished his purpose. The Gospel went into the world in the power of the Holy Spirit just like he planned.
