The Propitiated World !

1 Jn 2:1-2

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Now who is this whole world for which Jesus Christ the righteous is the propitiation for their sins, even a whole world of them?

The word propitiation is the greek word hilasmos and means:

a propitiation (of an angry god), atoning sacrifice.

hilasmós – properly, propitiation; an offering to appease (satisfy) an angry, offended party. 2434 (hilasmós) is only used twice (1 Jn 2:2, 4:10) – both times of Christ's atoning blood that appeases God's wrath, on all confessed sin. By the sacrifice of Himself, Jesus Christ provided the ultimate

Its therefore a whole world of folk that Christ by His propitiating death/blood, has appeased, satisfied Gods Law and Justice for them, and hath for them appeased Gods just wrath that is due their sins.

Now with that in mind, not one individual within the scope of this whole world can be under Gods Wrath for their sins, its impossible and would be an impeachment against the Blood of Christ if so !

Now it would be impossible for any of these sinners to be part of the whole world of 1 Jn 2:2

Rom 1:18

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Now if any of these men which Gods wrath against them is revealed from heaven, if anyone of them belongs to the whole world of 1 Jn 2:2 then God would be unjust and it would be an allegation againt the Blood of Christ which propitiated/appeased Gods wrath for them.

The Propitiated World !

Again the children of disobedience whose sins Gods wrath is against as in Col 3:5-6

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

Now if anyone of these children of disobedience which Gods wrath cometh upon belongs to the whole world of 1 Jn 2:2, then once again God is unjust and Christ propitiating blood comes to nought !

The propitiated world

The propitiated world will be given Faith in His Blood because His Blood propitiated God for them Rom 3:25

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

The word propitiation here is the greek word hilastērion and means:

relating to an appeasing or expiating, having placating or expiating force, expiatory; a means of appeasing or expiating, a propitiation

  1. used of the cover of the ark of the covenant in the Holy of Holies, which was sprinkled with the blood of the expiatory victim on the annual day of atonement (this rite signifying that the life of the people, the loss of which they had merited by their sins, was offered to God in the blood as the life of the victim, and that God by this ceremony was appeased and their sins expiated); hence the lid of expiation, the propitiatory

  2. an expiatory sacrifice for Those whom Christ propitiated God for, that is satisfied divine Justice for, shall be given Faith in His Blood since of a truth His Blood has for them satisfied the divine justice against their sins, which God given Faith is the evidence of !

If one never comes to Faith in Christ as all the Sheep will, then they weren't never one for whom Christ propitiated God for. They never were part of that whole world in 1 Jn 2:2

Amen, and TY Brother for this excellent study in 1 John 2:1-2 !

No God-given Faith in New Birth, means they are a goat of mankind; never part of the World Christ Propitiated by His Blood.

So these Words shall they hear:

Mat. 25:41

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Rev. 21:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

So, we can rest assured that these goats on Christ's left hand were never any He shed His Blood for !

Hence, they were never chosen or Loved by the Father, and thus not part of the whole World that 1 John 2:1-2 Speaks of !

Dear Nanja: The Goat of all goats has two flocks, both of which are His! The two flocks are both clean animals, not one clean and the other unclean!

The propitiated world is the world God so loved and sent His Son to be a sacrifice for 1 Jn 4:10

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

The word propitiation here hilasmos means:

Christ in dying has appeased Gods wrath against everyone for whom sins He died.fulfilling God’s requirement for justice against sin and placating His wrath

So that being the case nobody God loves and sent Christ to be the propitiation for their sins, they cant be under the wrath of God as these are Jn 3:36

36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Now this is impossible for any sinner, unbeliever, Christ has died for !

Now some may say of Jn 3:36 that the ones under Gods wrath are said to be those "that believeth not the Son" which assertion is true, however for the elect of God, jew or gentile, their unbelief doesn't bring down Gods wrath upon them, but God has mercy on them while they're in unbelief Rom 11:32

32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.

Thats why Paul as an elect jew obtained mercy because of the terrible sins he committed against Christ and His church in unbelief 1 Tim 1:13

13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

If were elect, our unbelief brings down Gods mercy upon us, not His wrath ! And thats because Christ is:

The propitiation for our sins.

Amen to #7 and #8 !

God having mercy on the Propitiated World turns their unbelief into belief.

Rom. 11:30-31

30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:

31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.

Only by God's Mercy can we obtain belief in Him.

Rom. 9:23-24

23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

Titus 3:5

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
We may also note that the world John lived in was one of segregated social status and prejudice.
When John declares "the sins of the whole world," he is not saying "every human being." John is declaring, as Paul does, that there is no specific people group or social status for whom Jesus propitiation only applies. No, Jesus propitiation goes beyond Jew or Greek. It goes throughout the world and reaches to every tribe and tongue as God wills. God is not prejudiced.

God is not propitiated for them who shall die in their sins in unbelief and the wrath of God remains upon them.

So as a consequence they shall pay the price for their own sins; have their part in the second death Rev. 21:8.

The reason why they're still under God's wrath for unbelief is that they were condemned already John 3:18; never part of the Propitiated World of 1 John 2:2. Hence, they were not made Righteous by Christ's Surety Obedience Heb. 7:22 on their behalf, as these were:

Rom. 5:8-10, 19

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

I believe that Jesus died on the cross for all sinners. The goats on the left rejected Christ.

They didn't believe because they weren't His Sheep Jn 10:26 ! Christ specifically stated He lay down His Life for the Sheep. Said nothing of the goats.

John 3:16 KJV For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Calvinist/Clavinist version:

16 For God so loved the world of the elect, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever of the world of the elect believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Calvinist: There are some amongst the world of the elect, that will not believe, you see, well, uh, urrrr........and we make the LORD God of the book an idiot, moron, like ourselves, for even including John 3:16 KJV in the same book.

Most definitely, because the Father has chosen all the Elect In Union with Christ before the foundation of the world Eph. 1:4, to be holy and without blame before Him in Love !

2 Thes. 2:13

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

And the same World of the Elect that God so Loved is spoken of here:

Deut. 7:6-8

6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

The Love God has for the World of His Elect People always presupposes Election; His own choosing of them In Christ Jesus, and they shall be made Righteous by His Obedience on their behalf Rom. 5:19.

Rom. 8:39

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Cor. 1:30

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Its a saved world, a Justified world ! So we know it cannot be meaning everyone without exception since many are and will be condemned, and under Gods wrath in the final day. There's a condemned world 1 Cor 11:32

32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Obviously those who dont belong to the US that God hath not appointed to wrath, have been appointed to wrath, which would contradict Christ being their propitiation.

Yes, obviously two distinct worlds of people.

The condemned world of 1 Cor. 11:32 is comprised of the same ones who hold the truth in unrighteousness whom God has appointed unto wrath.

Rom. 1:18

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Therefore, they can't possibly be any of the Propitiated World whom God has not appointed unto wrath, and instead has mercy unto their unrighteousness and has laid them upon Christ in their behalf.

Heb. 8:12

For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
