Is sin the result of temptation?

It can be a broad question.

Can you sin without being tempted to sin?

We know the first couple were tempted when they sinned.
Was Satan tempted to sin against GOD?

Where does temptation come from?
Within or without, or both?

That reminds me of an old saying...

You can't stop the birds from flying through the air, but you can stop them from building a nest in your hair.

James 1:14 But when a man is tempted, it is his own passions that carry him away and serve as a bait.

James 1:15 Then the passion conceives, and becomes the parent of sin; and sin, when fully matured, gives birth to death.

Jesus explains too that sin comes from thoughts that are put into your heart, where a person fosters it.

Matthew 15:9 For out of the heart come evil thoughts--murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Proverbs 4:23
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Satan is the prince of the air…he puts thoughts in people’s minds, and people can put those thoughts in their hearts, and then they act them out.

Ephesians 2:2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

Our flesh craves what we think about deeply, thoughts that we put into our hearts. The thoughts of sin come from out of the air, from the prince of the air. We can train our minds to submit to God and think of what is lovely and true. We can make sure we guard our hearts and not put those evil thoughts there.

1 Timothy 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, 2by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,…

Does it not say that it is generated by yourself, your own heart, and not that those thoughts were were generated by being put there by another?

If it is he that puts them there, then they would not be generated by your heart.

They go to the mind first. The thought is in the mind first before the heart. Thinking about the sinful thought, letting the thought linger there in wanting way is how one puts it in their heart.
It does not have to go from the mind to the heart. A person in the Lord will even stop it from going into the mind in the first place, but if it got in the mind, then a Christian is to get it out of the mind and not allow it to go to the heart.

Jesus said, "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man." (Matthew 15:18-20)

The sinful thought goes to the mind first.

The thought is in the mind first before it is put in the heart.

Thinking about the sinful thought, letting the thought linger there in a wanting way is how one puts it in their heart. Desiring what you are thinking of puts that sinful thought in your heart.

It does not have to go from the mind to the heart.

A person who obeys the Lord will stop the thought as soon as comes to the mind.

A person who obeys the Lord and who has fully trained themselves can stop the thought from even coming in the mind in the first place.

If the sin got in the mind, then a Christian is to get it out of the mind and not allow it to go to the heart.

Do you not agree that the potentialities of both Satan and Christ are within the heart or mind?

1 John 2:16 KJV

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Survey Genesis, "The Seed Plot" of the book:

Genesis 3 KJV
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Parallels:

-saw that the tree was good for food/the lust of the flesh

-saw...that it was pleasant to the eyes/the lust of the eyes

-saw...that it was to be desired to make one wise/the pride of life
(...ye shall be as gods...-"Genesis 3:5 KJV;" I will...I will...I will...I will...I will be like the most High."-Isiah 14: 12-14 KJV)

Saw....desired....took....

Thus, the "fall."

We can resist it by striving to be true to Jesus and His teachings.

The HS will help us to do that.
