Libertarianism and property rights

I know what the term "private property rights" means to Libertarians, but I just want to hear it from their own mouths.

Christian Liberty, drbrumley, WizardofOz, Lexington'96, TomO and any other Libertarians that I might have forgotten about, tell us what you can and can't do with your property (i.e. land and dwellings on it).

Let's talk about things like building and fire codes and eminent domain as well.

While I wait for Libertarians like drbrumley to show up and back up words like this that he said in another thread:

So Chrys is a socialist, maybe even a fascist. ANY person who is in favor of the pipeline, you are no Conservative. You are to be labeled henceforth a socialist at least, a fascist at worst.

Chrys here has no issue whatsoever of allowing a FOREIGN company to kick AMERICANS off their own property.

The fact that a government can force you off your own property shows that property rights are not secure, even in the U.S. As the great economist Murray Rothbard put it:

“Certainly no one can say that the inviolability of private property is protected by the government. And when government confers this power on a particular business, it is conferring upon it the special privilege of taking property by force.”

I need to emphasize that the private property rights that I'm talking about is with land and dwellings, NOT what Libertarian Murray Rothbard said parents should be able to do with their deformed baby.

Darn, both TomO and drbrumley viewed the thread but didn't reply. Hopefully Christian Liberty will respond when he logs on.

The Lord Jesus Christ explained why people were going to hell using an analogy they can all understand, which is property. Maybe that will help you.

13 But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”

You tell me Nick. Is it lawful for a private property owner to do anything that he or she wants to do with his or her property?

On a side note: drbrumley just let me know about a death in his family. My prayers go out to him and his family during these difficult times.

I can do what I want with my property, and you can do what you want with your's. It's pretty simple.

Just so that the readers of this thread don't misunderstand you Lex, may I add the word "anything" to your sentence?

Now tell us some of the things that you can do with your private property Lex.

he'll just twist it for "shock" value. a hardened, "experienced" male version of rchic ? - :patrol:

That's not a very Libertarian answer pj. Come on, tell us that you should be able to run a whore house or an opium den on your property, as it's yours and you should be able to do anything that you want with it.

No, I'm not going to respond.

Pretend that I haven't extensively studied your cult Jr. and that I just fell off of the turnip truck last night.

Tell us how building safety codes and health dept. codes are a bunch of hogwash and that if a building collapses on your family while you're eating what you thought was chicken but was really a diseased rodent, that the word will get out and that the business will eventually shut down due to bad publicity.

You really seem to have this quaint idea that you have a 'following of readers' and that they must all be shouting 'hurrah' or some crap every time you post. I think you'll find the reality of the situation to be somewhat at odds with that...

Did this scenario happen a lot in the past?
