The Code of Hammurabi is a well-preserved Babylonian code of law of ancient Mesopotamia, dated back to about 1754 BC (Middle Chronology). It is one of the oldest deciphered writings of significant length in the world. The sixth Babylonian king, Hammurabi, enacted the code.

The Babylonians did not believe all people were equal. The code treated slaves, commoners, and nobles differently.

Rabbinic Judaism calculated a lifespan of Moses corresponding to 13911271 BCE; Jerome gives 1592 BCE, and James Ussher 1571 BCE as his birth year. In the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses was mentioned as "the man of God."

The oldest known evidence of a law code are tablets from the ancient city Ebla (Tell Mardikh in modern-day Syria). They date to about 2400 B.C.E. — approximately 600 years before Hammurabi put together his famous code. There are literary texts with mythological backgrounds, incantations, collections of proverbs, and hymns to various deities. Most of the tablets deal with economic matters, tariffs, receipts, and other commercial dealings. However, other matters such as offerings to the gods are also dealt with.

It is odd that the text used the name of a god called Ya.

Did you know that God gave Commandments, Statutes and Laws to Abraham? God revealed to Isaac that he had given Abraham a Charge, Commandments, Statues and Laws (Genesis 26: 1-5)

There are other ways of dating Abraham including the use of the popular date of 1446 for the Exodus and 645 years between Abraham and the Exodus. Using this method one will date Abraham’s 75th year in the year 2091 BC during the Ur III period.

The Seven Laws of Noah
, also referred to as the Noahide Laws or the Noachide Laws (from the Hebrew pronunciation of "Noah"), they are a set of imperatives which were given by God as a binding set of laws for the "children of Noah" – that is, all of humanity.

The seven Noahide laws enumerated are the following:

Not to worship idols.
Not to curse God.
To establish courts of justice.
Not to commit murder.
Not to commit adultery or sexual immorality.
Not to steal.
Not to eat flesh torn from a living animal.
