You can see from this map that everything south of the so-called "Temple Mount" is desolate.
It is desolate because that is where the City of David and the Temple were located before the complete annihilation and removal of the stones. The 10th Roman Legion continued to occupy the so-called "Temple Mount" highground as it had since BCE
(map is incorrect in this respect).

Or of course one could ascend Olivet by way of the Damascus gate, (which of course was not there in the time of David, and thus I did not mark the Ascent to Olivet by that route).
