a year ago i said that the death penalty was wrong .. upon reading through the arguments on this side i can confidently say that it was my view that was wrong ..

i still find it highly unpleasant to consider carrying out... but if the government were resposnsibly doing their job i wouldnt have much to worry about.

So, just ignore the very next paragraph in which Paul says that the government is God's minister, an avenger to execute His wrath?

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Rom 12:19

[The government] does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Rom 13:4

Do you not see the connection between the words vengeance and avenger?
Bump.

Turbo was completely smashed by Theo. Slam dunk. The overstated conceit and nepotic, self-lauditory platiudes are truly unconvincing. Theo V deflty demonstrated what a christan's attitude toward the DP should be and supported his arguments with elegance and dexterity. Turbo blundered his way around like a bull in a china shop as is his standard approach. Well done Theo! Keep up the good standard.

Steven
Since you are so convinced that Theo won this debate. If, in the future, you run across a person who is struggling with the issue ... "should Christians support the death penalty" ... will you commit to referring them to this debate?

Do you mean the way he attempted to say the Bible doesn't mean what it clearly says?

When an argument has no merit... it is best delivered deftly with elegance and dexterity.

Then you're both wrong. "The death penalty is at the heart of the gospel." That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

You really don't get this simple concept. The death penalty was required of Christ because that's what it took to pay fro our sins.

The death penalty is not only at the heart of the gospel...it is a powerful evangelistic tool.

If a murderer knows that he is dying tomorrow and still won't repent... nothing could persuade him to repent.

In my opinion, spending life in prison would be worse than death.

So... your version of compassion is the murderer should get worse than death?

If the murderer doesn not repent, there can be nothing worse than delivering him to the Judge of the universe.

If you let him live a long life in prison he's very likely to NEVER repent... if he is scheduled to die tomorrow, he is much more likely to repent. That's compassion.

I'm sort of hoping stevenw will be able to return soon, so he can answer this question. Not to worry, he is probably printing off a copy of the debate right now so he can show his buddies how badly Turbo was defeated...or not.

I would certainly like to see the demographics of the vote...

I would expect people voting "Yes let's kill people" to all live a country where guns are freely available and who happily accept 'collateral damage' when storming into other nations.

Or, they might respect God's opinion on the matter.

FYI, I live in Michigan where our government doesn't put any criminals to death.

Have you read the debate?

Turbo was far better but it was very difficult for Theovictis to defend untenable positions.

BTW: the left is so much obsessed with democracy they think what people want is right. But somehow over 70% of Poles opt for death penalty and socialists still want to ban it. It shows clearly they like "democracy" and "free will" only if it is for the sick, leftist ideas.
