Hello everybody. I'm an American high school student (Junior) from Vermont. I was raised Roman Catholic by my adoptive family, but I lost my faith in my early teens. I've been finding my way back to Christianity lately, but I'm still between denominations and I have a lot of questions, so when I ran across this place I figured I should join.

I'm also (extremely) socially conservative, so just let me know if I ever need to tone it down a bit. Only mentioning this because it has gotten me in trouble on other forums.

Take a peek at this quote from the forum rules:

Keep in mind TOL is a biased forum, leaning very far to the Christian right, and therefore we interpret our rules from OUR perspective. There are many dissenting voices on TOL who have been debating us and fellowshipping with us for years, but those voices understand whose house party they are at and are respectful of that.
You'll fit in quite well here. :)

If you was saved through the ministry of a red hot, firebreathin' rightwing fanatic praise God but you were saved not to become like him but to become like Christ.... :)

I'm curious if you went to Catholic school all your life so far.

Don't worry, it's hard to get in trouble here.

So what are a couple of your most pressing questions regarding denominations?

I doubt that will get you into trouble around here. But then again, I see you "love your race" so maybe you will get into trouble.

I have never overthrown a bible doctrine because others have carried it to extremes...the trick is to stay upon the narrow path of orthodoxy.

Welcome.

I'm curious if you went to Catholic school all your life so far.

There hasn't been a Catholic school in my hometown for a while now, so I've gone to public school my whole life. I did take a catechism program offered by my local church when I was younger, but I didn't really take anything away from it, and it was outside my regular schooling so I don't know if you'd count it anyways.

Don't worry, it's hard to get in trouble here.

So what are a couple of your most pressing questions regarding denominations?

I don't know much about denominations (I've only ever attended RC masses) at this point, so I don't really have any specific questions. Basically, I'm just looking for a denomination that doesn't try to sugarcoat Christ's teachings to make them appealing to 'progressives'. There's also been an overly heavy amount of emphasis placed on forgiveness by the Catholic churches that I've attended. Forgiveness is great, but some things are beyond forgiving and I think the idea that no matter what you do you can apologize to God and make it all better is pretty dangerous.

Your slogan:------>Love your family, your country, and your race and defend them when they need defending.

Thanks for the heads up. I changed my signature just in case, and I'll try my best not to offend anyone.

Welcome aboard. Glad to see you amended the race comment, which makes as much sense to me as loving and defending tall people if you're tall. :D Be mindful that at your point in life your judgment centers are still forming and you can make really odd choices that will seem reasonable to you now and lamentable later. A good reason to double examine them thoroughly and often.

See you around the joint. :e4e:

I would have guessed Catholic school. That's the 2nd time I've been wrong about someone's schooling this week.

Have you heard of what is known as TAG? An argument for the existence of God
