English doesn't really account for it. English isn't an original language. It was derived from many other languages.

In Greek, a prosopon (person/face/presence) is the outward of the inward. The inward is a hypostasis (substance). So the express image OF a hypostasis is a prosopon.

God has no inherent outward appearance. That's why He spoke His Logos. And that's why He isn't a prosopon ("person"). The only "person" relative to God was the Incarnate Logos as Jesus Christ.

Ok, so God is not a person which means he is not a father and the so called holy Spirit is not a person, so what about Jesus? Person or non-person?

No CathodeLick, I didn't say that. I said God has no inherent outward appearance. God isn't a "person". You're a "person". The Incarnate Logos was and is a "person". All dead saints are and will be "persons".

In an algebra class, one time, a few of us answered a problem by simplifying and stopping. We said that there was not enough information to solve, but enough information to simplify. The other part of the class soved. The other part of the class got it wrong. The triune view is a simplified doctrine. It is too bad that the obviousness of such a statement seems to elude you that you think it a perjorative against us. Such is not the case, we are right, you and any other trying to solve are wrong, and beyond the bounds of revelation, end of story. Having been a fair hand at algebra, I'm not going to budge. You are wrong, end of story. The triune view is very much in keeping with algebraic simplification and an inability to solve, despite what others postulate. It doesn't work on paper. The core problem is the quantity and translated definition of hypostases. First, a hypostasis is NOT a "person". Second, there aren't three of them in scripture. Thirdly, scripture says something ELSE.
You'll have to take this up with God. I'm convinced your answer is wrong and over-reaching. Simplification is the best anser I believe and I believe it the only correct one.

The concept is so engrained as a default, that the primary "internal" criticism is substituting any triplicate term for "persons" that one can possibly contrive. That's not direct translation of the text, it's the eisegetic concept of fitting terms TO an already-configured ideology.

Underlying 'substance' of an existence. As such, it isn't the best term but one that says God is who He is and nothing else. For a finite creature trying to grasp this 'existence' of God, is laughable. We will never be able to do it.
For us, as it relates to theology, it is that which is God that supports all else.

How many hypostases are there in scripture relative to God?
The answer is given as blurred. End of discussion until, or unless you posit that God has given us a means by which to qualify or quantify Him.


What's the express image OF a hypostasis?
Again, only insomuch as man can see and live. God qualifies and quantifies Himself and we simplify and express scripture. Going anywise beyond scripture is the dangerous ground of heresy and it is this which the tri- -une view seeks to embrace without going beyond.

Scripture answers this by declaring Jesus and Father one and by declaring that these two communicate together, as separate. It is not for you or I to 'solve' but to simplify rightly, what scripture is telling us. If you demand I logic my way, humanly, I'm going to demand that you desist. My answer is "simplified, and no further!" in a purposeful manner that seeks to not go beyond scriptural revelation.

You insist you know what the Rhema is, but you don't. Rhema is NOT the spoken Word with Logos the written Word. Rhema is the thing spoken ABOUT. The subject matter of the Logos. The content. The substance OF outward expression.

The ANFs and ECFs didn't finish their job, and now it's been etched in alleged O/orthodox granite with proponenets gesticulating and insisting any kind of threeness is Trinity.

God is one being and three persons. A being is what we are, and in God's case He is the Supreme Being, the Deity: God. But the person refers to who we are, and in God's case He is Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Now, God the Son became man (John 1). Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man. Sometimes when he speaks he speaks in his humanity, as in some of your quotes. Other times he speaks in his Divinity, such as when he said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I Am"—invoking and applying to himself the personal name of God—"I Am" (Ex. 3:14).

Our finite minds are only able to grasp so much of God's make-up, but there are things about Him we can never grasp. And this makes total sense, for if a man were fully able to grasp the nature of Almighty God, then He would not be so almighty, would he.

If you knew what eidos meant, and what it is in overall context to the passage AND the remainder of scripture, you wouldn't have to ask.

And it might be helpful to know that idol (eidolon) is derived from eidos.

It would also be beneficial to know that eidos is NOT schema, morphe, homotoma, theoria, or horama; though they're all synonyms in some manner.

Though it may not seem so, I'm not really here to argue with Unitarians, Arians, Sabellians, and the like. In fact, I'm not really here to argue at all; though any debate format like a discussion forum includes that.

My big beef is with the many DyoHypoTrinitarians who are leaving everyone else outside the faith and calling them all "cultists" in the most vile manner when their own allegedly O/orthodox doctrine is, itself, heterodox to scripture which gives us only ONE hypostasis for God.

So I end up in strong conflict with DyoHypoTrins who refuse to recognize the inane paradoxes of their own presumed position, which is littel more than ideologized and indoctrinated dogma handed down in a conceptual form.

As for me, I am not going to have a father who is not a person with whom I can communicate. A formless father is just not for me, I could not relate.

I did get an insight like that into why the KJV uses Holy Ghost and not Holy Spirit.
