Many today in the religion of man have neglected the study of the word world, like in n 3:16 and other scriptures. Its always wise to seek to understand what is Gods Mind on any given word instead of settling for the view of the natural mans understanding. I recommend a w pinks little study here that gives biblical guidance on how the word world kosmos is used by the men of God inspired by the Holy Ghost. A must read for any serious bible student of the word. This is not a blanket endorsement for all the teachings of mr pink.

Thank you for this excellent study on the word kosmos.

God's Elect know that we must always compare scripture with scripture to come to the Truth of His Word, just as A. W. Pink has so eloquently done with the word World in the scriptures.

1 Cor. 2:11-13

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

People are usually careless in there understanding of the word world in scripture, even the world kosmos as found in Jn 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Many flippantly designate world here to be all mankind without exception. But this word world means different things in scripture and rarely all without exception. It can be used to mean a limited amount of people as such the Elect are. Notice here Jn 7:1-4

After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

2 Now the Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.

3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.

4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.[kosmos]

Now was Jesus being told to shew Himself openly to everyone without exception ? No, the world here is definitely limited in extent.

Lets look at another scripture where obviously the world [kosmos] is limited in extent and obviously people Jn 12:19

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world[kosmos] is gone after him.

So was it meant every individual in the world was at that time following after Jesus ? No, geography/region was limited and the populous was limited !
