Someone here pointed out that the civil war deaths were overstated in my post.
I check and YES; you are correct
The civil war deaths were around 750,000
I changed the number on the graph
Thanks for pointing this out

I used a graph I found googling the subject. The graph may be wrong elsewhere as well?
Of the 34 U.S. states in February 1861, seven Southern slave states were declared by partisans to have seceded from the country, and a Confederate States of America was organized in rebellion against the U.S. Constitutional government. The Confederacy grew to control at least a majority of territory in eleven states, and it claimed the additional states of Kentucky and Missouri by assertions from native secessionists fleeing Union authority, but without territory or population therein; these states were given full representation in the Confederate Congress throughout the Civil War. The two remaining slave states, Delaware and Maryland, were invited to join the Confederacy, but nothing substantial developed due to intervention by federal troops.
The Confederate States was never diplomatically recognized by the government of the United States or by that of any foreign country.[d] The states that remained loyal to the U.S. were known as the Union.[e] The Union and the Confederacy quickly raised volunteer and conscription armies that fought mostly in the South over the course of four years. Intense combat left 620,000 to 750,000 people dead, more than the number of U.S. military deaths in all other wars combined.[f]

Fixing the ridiculous numbers is kinda missing the point. Nobody knows why you would post war stats in the first place.

That might make some sense for the earlier wars, but the Iraq war? No, it looks about 2 orders of magnitude too large.

The huge numbers of Native American dead in the European conquest of the Americas is mostly from disease.

Some civilizations in the Americas fell apart from plagues of common Old World diseases before Europeans even arrived; their diseases preceded them.

Pelosi is pretty smart. She's allowing lots of calls for impeachment, but won't let it happen yet. Maybe she won't let it happen at all. If things continue as they have, that might change:

NBC/WSJ Poll: Trump vs. Biden, 2020 Democrats, Impeachment
Posted By Ian Schwartz
On Date June 17, 2019

A new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll shows a shift in public opinion on impeachment. 27% of Americans now say there is enough evidence to begin impeachment hearings, up 10 points in the last month.
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/v...rump_vs_biden_2020_democrats_impeachment.html

Another 24% want to continue investigating crimes related to impeachment. If those numbers continue to rise, look for a trial.

Otherwise, she might leave him floundering for a few more months instead of energizing his base with an impeachment. She no doubt remembers what happened to the republicans when they engineered an impeachment trial for Bill Clinton, against public opinion.

Not only did they fail, they paid a steep price in subsequent elections.

The astonishing thing is, the Wall Street Journal has found that over half of all Americans either think he's a criminal who needs to be removed, or think that there's reason to investigate and find out if he is.

Last time that happened was... (Barbarian checks)...

1974.

The problem is that democracy is guaranteed to end in genocide. The descent into hell is slow and gradual, so people just follow along like sheep.

At least with other forms of government, there is a chance that society will be good.

And it must not be "pure democracy"... i.e., direct democracy. Hence something like the Electoral College.

When I took government in college the topic of the Electoral College never came up. I have been voting in the Presidential election from 1968 to the present and not once did the Electoral College come up. Now I discover that my votes during all those years meant NOTHING!!
at 70, I must say, I’m a bit pissed off.
