Pro-choicers like me aren't opposed to adoption per se. If a pregnant woman decides to put her child up for adoption, this is her right . However, adoption is extremely problematic and is no guarantee of anything .
It's not easy to adopt children . The process is long and full of red tape. And because of this, thousands and thousands of children who were were put up for adoption have been waiting indefinitely to be placed in good homes with loving ,caring adoptive parents . Many are now teenagers and they have never been adopted . They are placed in temporary foster homes which in many cases do not provide them with good care , and the temporary foster parents are not always good people . Cases of neglect , physical and or sexual abuse have been very common .
Ultimately, there is only one way to prevent abortion - to prevent unwanted pregnancies .
All pro-choicers, including yours truly , want to prevent as many abortions as possible - to make sure women are able to avoid getting pregnant when bearing a child would place a terrible burden on them and their children . But preventing unwanted pregnancies is more easily said than done .
People who oppose abortion must show much greater concern for children once they are born . But hardly any do . They should not support and vote for Republican politicians, because they have been consistently voting for decades to deprive poor women of everything they need to prevent unwanted pregnancies and provide for children once born . This is the height of hypocrisy .
Remember- babies are still helpless once out of the womb . They must have good , clean housing, good nutrition and they must never be denied health care . The Republicans h ave done absolutely nothing to make sure babies and children are well provided for once born . This automatically guarantees a higher abortion rate . Trying to stop abortion by making it illegal is like trying to stop a forest fire by pouring gasoline on it . It only makes a bad situation far worse .
