As shutdown continues, Trump is right to fight for the border wall – Our national security demands it
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/as-...-border-wall-our-national-security-demands-it

Just when it looked like President Trump might cave in to Democratic opposition to his signature issue of a building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, he has taken a principled stand and is holding firm on his demand for about $5 billion in wall funding from Congress.

As a result, the partial federal government shutdown that began Saturday morning will continue for at least several days, because the Senate has adjourned until Thursday for the Christmas holiday.

Republican members of Congress have promised in the past to fight for the border wall – a commonsense position, because the wall will unquestionably make it harder for illegal immigrants and criminals to enter the U.S. But in the face of strong Democratic opposition, congressional Republicans have failed to deliver.

President Trump’s determination to keep his campaign promise to build a wall in the interests of America’s national security stiffened the resolve of Republicans in the House of Representatives

A great point made by Mark Levin: Among the remarks made by President Trump at Signing of H.R. 2, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 on December 20, were these:

".....Every nation has not only the right, but the absolute duty, to protect its borders and its citizens. A nation without borders is a nation not at all. Without borders, we have the reign of chaos, crime, cartels, and — believe it or not — coyotes. I will not surrender this nation to the whims of criminal organizations who prey on the vulnerable, who hurt women and children, and who spread human misery and suffering. Human trafficking and massive drug inflow must also be stopped...."

Mark Levin noted this: Chuck Schumer, in his attack on Trump and the Wall on the Senate floor never once mentioned any of these things. Crime, cartels, coyotes, criminal organizations, women and children, human misery.... ....none of these are of any concern to Crying Chuck or the Democrats. Only their obsession with opposing Trump is of any concern to them, nothing else. This is more proof that Democrats are immoral, evil, and do not care on bit about American citizens.

Would Such A Wall Actually Work?

I'm reminded of the following:

90 Foot Deep, Drug Running Tunnel Uncovered

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m0Vi2TGXBRU

Four years later, the infamous Drug Kingpin "El Chapo" successfully pulled off another tunnel.

Determined enough, people are simply ingenious at getting around obstacles, sooner or later, one way or another.

Any thoughts on what might be better solutions?

Would Such A Wall Actually Work?

No. It would be a huge waste of money and mostly ineffectual.

Why the DHS believes that a 30–foot tall wall cannot be scaled and a tunnel cannot be built deeper than six feet below ground is not clear.

Altogether, between 1990 and 2016, 224 tunnels have been unearthed at the U.S.–Mexico border.

I'm all for border security but the resources are better spent of alternative methods of enforcement as opposed to a wall.

I certainly disagree with Trump's tweet:
The only way to stop drugs, gangs, human trafficking, criminal elements and much else from coming into our Country is with a Wall or Barrier. Drones and all of the rest are wonderful and lots of fun, but it is only a good old fashioned Wall that works!

More border agents and drones, etc would be much more effective that building a wall that most will simply go under anyway.

That's what they're doing now so what good is a wall? Invest in drones, censors, cameras and actual agents to secure the border.

Don't forget boats, the wall can't extend out into the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific.

Would Such A Wall Actually Work?.......

The wall is one layer in a multi-layered comprehensive security zone.

No. It would be a huge waste of money and mostly ineffectual. .......

That's two lies in one one sentence. Outstanding.

First of all the wall is very effectual; Just ask the Israelis: Their wall has cut Palestinian crossover to next to nothing. And on our own border, crossings are almost non-resistant where there is good sections of wall.

As for money: Illegal immigration to the U.S. costs federal, state and local taxpayers a staggering net cost of $116 billion a year. At that rate, the wall will pay for itself in a few months.

As usual, you don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about.

Border fence in Israel cut illegal immigration by 99 percent, GOP senator says
https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-...-fence-israel-cut-illegal-immigration-99-per/

".......Experts we reached out to agree that illegal immigration along Egypt’s southern border has indeed significantly dropped in the years after the fence was built and that Johnson's assessment of its costs and timeframe are sound....."

Border Patrol Chief: 'We Certainly Need a Wall, Any Agent Will Tell You That'

The head of the U.S. Border Patrol said Sen. Chuck Schumer, Sen. Bernie Sanders and others on the left are incorrect when they claim a wall is not a useful tool to stop illegal immigration.

"We certainly do need a wall. Talk to any border agent and they will tell you that," Chief Carla Provost said on "Your World."

Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader, clashed with Trump Monday in a televised Oval Office meeting, and dismissed the idea of funding a border wall.

Provost said that, pending the $5 billion appropriation championed by President Trump, she has "prioritized" the locations where walls should be built along the 1,954-mile border with Mexico.

In that case don't ever lock your doors. Whats the point. Determined enough, people are simply ingenious at getting around obstacles. There's no reason to ever take any precautions.

That is the ultimate place were your stupid argument ends up.

The situations are significantly different as the referenced article notes. Very few Palestinians are seeking to immigrate currently, not that they do not want to but there is nothing for them on the other side. A much smaller number is wanting to cross the wall to do mayhem but they are largely using large numbers of inexpensive rockets shot over the wall instead.

LOL. Terrorism is a much stronger motivation to cross. The "small numbers" is a pure subjective guess on your part. And even then, those are the determined ones, so the wall works.

The point is, the wall works. People who say walls don't works are ignorant.

i looked at the article and didn't see where the DHS claimed that a 30–foot tall wall cannot be scaled and a tunnel cannot be built deeper than six feet below ground
