Wage growth well short of what was promised from tax reform

The Barbarian - do you think inflation is a problem when compared to the overall stagnation of 'real wages'?

For now, inflation isn't a problem. Stagnation of wages is a very serious problem. Economically, the thing that separates first and third-world nations is disparity of income. Less disparity, stronger economy. So we're eating the seed corn now. Or rather fewer and fewer people are eating more and more of the corn, instead of planting.

LOL. He who lives in a glass house ought to be smarter than to throw stones. Let's take a look at all the promises the democrats have made in their "war on poverty" which has overseen a tremedous rise in poverty

Well, let's take a look...

Surprised? A lot of people just took someone's word for it, and got fooled. Always check for yourself. It will save you some embarrassment next time.

Let's look at before and after statistics of marxist policies and see what what they really caused.

Perhaps you don't know what "Marxist" means. It's something really bad. And it isn't anything LBJ did.

You have decades of lying to account for.

Trump has only been in politics a few years. But yes, he was a liar long before that. Doesn't have anything to do with the drop in the poverty rate after the war on poverty got underway, though. Look at the graph, again.

On the other hand, after the tax bill you wanted so badly, you have at least a trillion dollars worth of debt to make excuses for.

So Trump didn't think so many people would re-enter the job market.

He knew they wouldn't. He just told us they would, if we'd let him give himself a huge tax cut.

For that you call him a liar.

Well, account for all the lies of the democrats for more than 5 decades. Nothing they have promised has come true.

See above for one example of a policy that worked. Learn from it.

A new study published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found what other studies have found: Support for Trump was largely motivated by white fear of displacement from dominance.

As the study put it:

“White Americans’ declining numerical dominance in the United States together with the rising status of African Americans and American insecurity about whether the United States is still the dominant global economic superpower combined to prompt a classic defensive reaction among members of dominant groups.”

This new study dovetails with an analysis of millennial Trump voters published last year in The Washington Post: “First, white millennial Trump voters were likely to believe in something we call ‘white vulnerability’ — the perception that whites, through no fault of their own, are losing ground to other groups. Second, racial resentment was the primary driver of white vulnerability — even when accounting for income, education level or employment.”

The idea that the primary motivator for Trump supporters was economic anxiety was a false narrative swallowed and regurgitated by a gullible media too afraid to call a thing a thing: racial resentment.

A 2016 analysis, also published in The Post, found that “economic anxiety isn’t driving racial resentment. Racial resentment is driving economic anxiety.”

Among the right is a curious belief that economics and dignity are zero-sum games. If one group gains, they think it means someone else has to lose. In many parts of the country, no matter how down one might be, one could at least take comfort in not being black.

What happens when that is no longer true?

I don't see anything there about conservatives being "enraged"

"anxious", "fearful" and "resentful", yes

but not enraged

So conservatives are "anxious", "fearful" and "resentful" over black economic gains since the war on poverty. As you see, that translates into anger over policies that made it possible.

@The Barbarian - do you think inflation is a problem when compared to the overall stagnation of 'real wages'?

@ffreeloader - are you comfortable with Republicans increasing the deficit by $1 trillion?

Both parties are playing the same game. They increase spending and hand out much more welfare to corporations than individual citizens.

They're playing us all.

I agree. Both parties are Keynesians working hand in hand to destroy this country's economy. Ryan and McConnel worked with the Democrats to send a non-repealable spending bill to Trump. I'll be curious to see if Trump will refuse to sign the next spending bill Congress sends him as he said he would.

Yes, real wages have not kept up with productivity. If socialism triumphs in the United States, it will be because of that.

The point is that black workers have improved their condition at a faster rate than other workers, which has enraged conservatives.

What a freaking lie. I have never met a conservative who thinks blacks should be kept in poverty. Every conservative I know is happy to see the black community prospering. When Trump talks about this at his rallies the crowds go nuts cheering this result.

this is just an example of barbie's typical trolling - he's hoping somebody will respond to his lies with outrage

I don't know of a single conservative who is anxious, fearful, and/or resentful because anyone is prospering. If any conservatives have those attributes right now it is because of debt, spending, and the destruction of liberty by the political left cooperating with rino republicans.

it's just barbie's trolling spin on what would otherwise have been an innocuous story

That's an opinion piece, not fact.

Now let me give you a fact: "The U.S. economy grew more quickly than most economists expected during the first quarter of 2019, according to data released Friday by the Commerce Department. During the three-month period from January to March, the GDP rose at a 3.2 percent annualized rate, beating most analysts’ expectations of 2.5 percent."

Your socialist boy Obama mocked Trump when he said he would reach these numbers. Obama said Trump would need a magic wand to hit that GDP number. Well, Trump IS the magic wand, the economy is booming, unemployment is the lowest in 50 years, wages are up, and you are full of crap.
