Cooling trends blamed on volcanoes

As you know, the temps have been cooling since 1998, in terms of global averages. The blame? Volcano ash. That is certainly possible if the light is blocked. The impossible part is for them to admit that 2014 is not the hottest year ever. Links in the link.

But but but I just read right here on TOL that '14 is the hottest year EVAH. Okay, I only saw the thread title but didn't click, but it did say it. Now I don't know what to believe.

Lesse he had to find his denialist friends.

ClimateDepot.com founder Marc Morano has been called "the Matt Drudge of climate denial," the "king of the skeptics," and "a central cell of the climate-denial machine," and he revels in these descriptions. Although he has no scientific expertise, he is adamant that manmade global warming is a "con job" based on "subprime science." Morano gained prominence working for two of the most vocal climate deniers in the U.S.: Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), who notoriously called climate change "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people," and Rush Limbaugh, who we named Climate Change Misinformer of the Year in 2011 for his steadfast denial of climate science and wild conspiracy theories about the climate change "hoax."

These days Morano is paid by an industry-funded group to run the climate denial website ClimateDepot.com. At Climate Depot, Morano serves as the de facto research department for the right-wing media's attacks on climate science, and mobilizes his readers to target individual scientists and reporters for telling the public about climate change threats.

Who are you gonna believe, NOAA and NASA or people funded by the oil industry.

Well, let's take look...

Hmm... the hottest global average anomaly for the 90s was 61. The hottest global average anomaly for the current decade was 68. That was in 2014. They got you again, Nick.

The blame? Volcano ash.

It's not ash, Nick. That falls out way too fast to be of any significant affect. It's acid droplets from major eruptions. But that too, doesn't have a decades-long effect.

That is certainly possible if the light is blocked. The impossible part is for them to admit that 2014 is not the hottest year ever. Links in the link.

Your site doesn't say it isn't the hottest year ever. It says it's the hottest year ever by such a small amount that it shouldn't count.

Try that the next time you're overdrawn at the bank.

Doesn't matter....just like creationists, all that matters is that their sources tell them what they want to hear.

That's not true. 1997-1998 was an El Nino year, and thus warmer than surrounding years (for reasons not related to the general warming trend), and while the warming has slowed since then (the reasons are not entirely certain, but there are several competing theories), there hasn't been cooling.

Kind of funny coming from the Climate Gate crowd. Cooking the books to hide the decline, the ultimate conspiracy revealed to be true.

That data isn't from HADCrut. It's from NASA. But several government and media investigations concluded that the fraud claims against East Anglia were a hoax by the guys who stole and edited the emails.

Until you learn to think for yourself, you're easy prey for anyone willing to tell you want you want to hear, Nick.

If they think it's global ¿cooling? then it isn't volcanoes causing it; it's all those dumb rednecks dumping freon out of their '86 Ford pickups. That and all the free ammonia from them peeing out their front doors. It's sciunse.

Yet another theory on the "pause" in global warming that is going on 19 years now.

Another theory is that the deep, cold ocean has been absorbing the excess heat, says Jerry Meehl, a senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado (see video, above, produced by Earth Vision Trust). That process couldn't continue forever, as eventually the air above the ocean would resume warming as well.

Of course heat always equalizes. Insulation slows it, it doesn't stop it. And if the ocean absorbs heat because it is cooler, then it will always absorb it. It didn't just start 19 years ago.

And if the oceans continue to absorb heat then ocean currents will change and guess what----big, big, big changes in the atmosphere and the land. Understanding that requires some study Nick and some ability to understand the real world. Give it a shot.

Yep. The oceans are warming up faster than the land right now. Which is why ice shelves in the Antarctic are falling into the sea, and now the seas are rising faster than before.

This year, scientists reported alarming news about the huge continental ice sheet covering the western portion of Antarctica: It's headed for collapse, due to rapid melting of some of its buttressing ice shelves. When it does, global sea levels will rise by several meters. It has long been suspected that warm ocean waters at the base of those floating ice shelves are responsible for hurrying things along. But with scant data from the waters around Antarctica, that has been difficult to prove. Now, a new study that pieces together 40 years’ worth of data collected in multiple regions around Antarctica suggests that scientists have found the smoking gun: Warming waters are indeed sneaking up under the floating ice in the regions of fastest melting.

But still, as even Nick's denier site admits, last year was the hottest on record for atmospheric surface temperatures.

They just don't think it was hotter enough to count.

If you cherry pick points like the skeptics do, you can make believe the earth is cooling. Unfortunately, reality is rather different.
