By reducing the number of these people entering our country, President Trump clearly reduced the flow of opioids crossing our southern border between our ports of entry – thereby reducing the number of drug overdose deaths by an unknown number. How many lives were saved?

Doctors Without Borders conducted a study and found that 31 percent of women and girls are sexually assaulted making the illegal journey to the U.S. By reducing the number of immigrants coming here illegally, President Trump has reduced the number of such assaults.

The Border Patrol saved over 4,000 lives last year. And while we don’t know how many, President Trump must have saved additional lives by preventing many people from even trying to make the dangerous journey to enter the U.S. illegally.

President Trump’s command of this national illegal immigration crisis is exemplary. He has kept his promises to make our country safer in many ways and saved lives of countless illegal immigrants in the process.

Congress has the power to change our immigration laws or repeal them and fix a broken system. However, unless that happens, all elected officials – regardless of party – have an obligation to enforce the laws and safeguard our national security.

The Catholic Church teaches that every person has basic human rights and is entitled to have basic human needs met—food, shelter, clothing, education, and health care. Undocumented persons are particularly vulnerable to exploitation by employers, and they are not able to complain because of the fear of discovery and deportation. Current immigration policy that criminalizes the mere attempt to immigrate and imprisons immigrants who have committed no crime or who have already served a just sentence for a crime is immoral. In the Bible, God promises that our judgment will be based on our treatment of the most vulnerable. Before God we cannot excuse inhumane treatment of certain persons by claiming that their lack of legal status deprives them of rights given by the Creator.

The Catholic Church does NOT teach that it is okay to break the law and illegally sneak into other countries. So that is that.

Trump administration at odds with Catholic leaders on immigration policies

U.S. bishops have denounced aggressive deportation practices that “instigate panic in our communities” and do not “serve as an effective deterrent to irregular migration”; detention decisions that have led to “heartbreaking consequences for immigrant children”; and the administration’s new policy denying residency applications to legal immigrants if they use federally funded social services. The bishops say the Trump administration’s “public charge” policy threatens to “undermine family unity” and will mean that lawful immigrants will “forgo vital assistance, including enrollment in nutrition, housing, and medical programs.”

On Sept. 13 the U.S.C.C.B. weighed in on immigration again, this time on plans that critics charge will mean the end of the United States as a safe haven for the world’s refugees. Trump officials have systematically reduced overall target numbers for annual refugee resettlement in the United States and thrown up new bureaucratic obstacles and vetting procedures that have led to historic lows in refugee entries.

Customs and Border Protection officers rescued nearly 5,000 illegal immigrants from danger, while also greatly increasing the capture of illicit drugs and weapons smuggled into the country at the southwest border, according to numbers for fiscal year 2019 released Tuesday.

CBP reported that it seized about 750,000 pounds of illegal drugs. Seizures in every drug category except marijuana rose in fiscal 2019, which ended Sept. 30.

Border Patrol agents arrested 859,501 illegal immigrants in fiscal 2019, more than double the previous year.

Drugs captured included, but weren’t limited to, roughly:

—101,000 pounds of cocaine, up 73% from seizures in fiscal 2018.

—2,800 pounds of fentanyl, up 30% from the previous fiscal year.

—83,000 pounds of methamphetamine, up 23%.

—6,200 pounds of heroin, up 8%.

Customs and Border Protection also captured more than $75 million in counterfeit currency and more than 1,700 weapons smuggled into the country. That marked an increase of 300% for guns over fiscal 2018.

“Still, in the midst of this turmoil, and under extraordinary, challenging circumstances, our agents went above and beyond, rescuing people at risk of drowning in rivers and canals, dying in the desert, or abandoned in locked tractor-trailers,” acting CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan said Tuesday at a press conference in El Paso, Texas.

“In fact, in fiscal year 2019, Border Patrol agents rescued more than 4,900 people on our southwest border alone,” Morgan added.

The government also has made progress on construction of the border wall, finishing 76 miles and on track to complete 450 miles by the end of 2020.

“This new barrier is essential to our nation’s border security,” Morgan said. “By the end of 2020, CBP expects to have completed 450 miles of new border wall system. We will also have an additional 59 miles under construction in high-priority locations across the southwest border, pending real estate availability.”

Border Patrol agents arrested 859,501 illegal immigrants in fiscal 2019, up 113% from the previous year. The vast majority of those arrests—851,508—were on the border. CBP’s Office of Field Operations reported apprehending 288,523, while Air and Marine Operations caught 52,036, up 9% from the previous year.

“During fiscal year 2019, CBP’s enforcement actions on the southwest border totaled nearly 860,000,” Morgan said during the El Paso event, held in front of a border wall. “Furthermore, we have proof that nearly 150,000 people ‘got away’ from us, because too many of our agents were pulled off the line to cope with the crisis.”

The increase in border arrests was driven largely by a 342% increase in family units taken into custody—a total of 473,682—and a 26% bump in unaccompanied children, totaling 68,660, taken into custody, he said.

Border Patrol made 976 arrests of criminals and gang members, a 20% increase from fiscal 2018.

CBP hired an additional 1,034 officers in fiscal 2019, bringing its total to 24,511.

This thread is about the fact that Trump policies have saved lives. You are blabbering about the Catholic bishops.

Being the fascist socialist baby murderer that you are, you don't care in the slightest what Catholic bishops have to say about anything, from abortion to gay marriage to sin, to anything. So don't be so stupid as to pretend you care what they have to say about this.

The bishops are not in charge of border security and I don't care what they say about it. Nobody does. So you are just ranting like the brainless tool you are.

The focus of attention for the nation's security is now on the spread of coronavirus, not the southern border, Trump's erratic behavior merely confirms what much of the nation has long suspected - he is mentally unfit for the task!

Claiming that everyone can now be tested for the coronavirus when there are only 75000 kits and 3 labs capable of performing the testing in the nation, only reinforces the perception that this President has retreated into a fantasy world of denial detached from reality!
