President Donald Trump is rewarding senators who have his back on impeachment — and sending a message to those who don't to get on board.

Trump is tapping his vast fundraising network for a handful of loyal senators facing tough reelection bids in 2020. Each of them has signed onto a Republican-backed resolution condemning the inquiry as “unprecedented and undemocratic.” Story Continued Below
Conspicuously absent from the group is Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a politically vulnerable Republican who’s refused to support the resolution and avoided taking a stance on impeachment. With his new push, Trump is exerting leverage over a group he badly needs in his corner with an impeachment trial likely coming soon to the Senate — but that also needs him.
​​​​​​​Republican senators on the ballot next year are lagging in fundraising, stoking uncertainty about the GOP’s hold on the chamber, and could use the fundraising might of the president. Trump’s political operation has raked in over $300 million this year.

On Wednesday, the Trump reelection campaign sent a fundraising appeal to its massive email list urging donors to provide a contribution that would be divided between the president and Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner, Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, and North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis. Each of the senators are supporting the anti-impeachment resolution despite being endangered in 2020.

“If we don’t post strong fundraising numbers,” the message warned, “we won't be able to defend the President from this baseless Impeachment WITCH HUNT.”

No. But I didn't always realize that, I had to learn through watching them in action.

Side note - that last line in the OP with "WITCH HUNT" gave me a chuckle, because I come from a Republican background as you know, and one of my kids used my old email address so it's still in their fundraising database and I get their donor emails that are so Trumpy and so arm-twisty. :chuckle:

One recent one:

"Now I'm emailing you. Again.

My team has been sending me daily updates with a list of every patriotic supporter who has stepped up to help...

I just looked at today's list and your name is still MISSING.

Why is that, [NAME IN ALL CAPS]?"

:chuckle: I receive email and requests from Dems for fundraising. The biggest change is that at one time, I would have voted for certain Republicans.

No more. After what they have done since 2016, I will only support their opponents.

The basis of this thread is actually really funny. Anna is acting like no previous president has rewarded his supporters with re-election help and helped undermine those elected politicians who have not supported them. In other words she is pretending to not know anything about the political history of this nation.

Just how many fundraising trips did Obama make for other Democrats? It was a lot. He was out on the road doing fundraising for them a whole lot of the time. That was rewarding those who were his biggest supporters and ignoring those who didn't support him. FDR did it. Woodrow Wilson did it. Bill Clinton did it. Jimmy Carter did it. It has been done by Republican and Democrat presidents all throughout the history of our two-party system of politics. It's one of the reasons George Washington said the two-party system would destroy our form of government. But to condemn only Trump for doing the same things 95-98% of our presidents have doneis about as hypocritical as a person can get.

Get a little integrity anna.

So, you claim you know the internal motivations of Donald Trump. Just how many dozens of years have you been an intimate confidant of Donald Trump's where he has told you all his innermost thoughts? Or, how many decades have you been listening in on wiretaps of Trump's homes and offices? It must be something like that for you to claim to know his innermost motivations. It's either that or you're just once more making it all up as you go. Just like Schiff, Pelosi, and company....

It seems to me it's just another baseless assertion that you think ought to be taken a face value just because of your personal hatred of the man.

Given his constant tweet fest, one would hardly need to be an "intimate confidant" to get an understanding of the guys innermost thoughts. The man broadcasts his ego like a neon sign along with his cringe worthy childishness whenever it's under threat on a daily basis. I suppose the Access Hollywood tape was just media spin and fake news as well?

So because you think Trump is egotistical all you can see is ego. I see something else altogether. I see a man who must express himself in his tweets for he is locked out of any honest reporting by the mockingbird media. Those cretins, along with people like you, don't have an honest word to say about the man. In fact, the only reason I have become an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump is because of the dishonest dealings I see from the Democrats and mockingbird media. If your side had only dealt with Trump and his supporters honestly and with honor I would very likely not have spent hundreds, if not thousand, of hours researching in his defense. I have no party loyalty. I'm loyal only to the constitution. And you people want to destroy it.

The only thing your side's constant attacks on Trump have done is awaken millions of people to just how dishonest, manipulative, and lawless your side is. His antics are a constant source for satire alone and the fact that you apparently spend thousands of hours trying to find stuff to defend the guy is almost as sad as it is funny. I don't ascribe to any political party and nor do I have any desire to destroy the constitution.
