So the testing came back on Jack and he's going to be in the gifted class. They wait until late 2nd grade here to test for that, but it wasn't a real surprise for us. The woman in charge of the program is related to someone we know, though she didn't know about our connection. Anway, a couple of years ago this teacher, who has a masters specializing in exceptional children, said to this mutual friend that there were a number of extraordinary children in our school, but that there was one that went off the charts, nothing like it in her 17 years in...then she mentioned his name.

So they told us. I'm probably putting him into another school next year, so he can really develop second language skills we've been playing at, along with his artistic talents. It's in Mobile and costs a small fortune, but he'll love the freedom and things they have to offer. Keep him from getting bored and put him among more similarly situated kids, which will be good for him. He has a couple of friends who are already ensconced. We talked it over and he's excited by the idea. I'm less excited by the bus trip, but that's the life of a parent, isn't it...

My son is just about to turn 10. My daughter is already taller than gramma, near to moms height.

Thanks. He just turned eight. Snap your fingers and the years fly.

Speaking of Jack, he was named ROAR student of the month in his Kindergarten class and the national testing came back, putting him in the top 10% of the nation's students in both math and reading. And they haven't seen him in full gear yet. The woman who was doing her doctoral thesis and concentration on gifted children was talking with a mutual friend of ours and he related that during their conversation about her work she said, "There are a number of gifted children in the [redacted] school system. And then there's one, named Jack, who really stands out, even inside that group."

He asked if she meant Jack [gave last name] and she said, "Then you've met him."

    Town Quixote's is reopened.

If you let bad people dictate where you're comfortable you might as well pack up and move to Jersey. See you back at the old digs. This thread is for Jack.
