The fault of others: exiles, scapegoats and the human face of disease

Marginal groups, minorities and the poor have been common targets. Jews were widely blamed for the Black Death and immigrant Irish workers held responsible for cholera epidemics in the 1830s.

Blame can be international. The appearance of syphilis in Renaissance Europe became a classic example of passing the blame. Syphilis was christened the ‘French disease’ by the British, but the French held the Italians responsible. They returned the compliment. The Dutch blamed the Spanish, while the Russians blamed the Poles.

In Japan the Portuguese were at fault, whereas the Turks simply called it the Christian disease. And when in 1769 Captain Cook observed the disease on Tahiti, it was known to all islanders as the British disease!

"Scapegoating" certain groups has a long, sorry history - modern Christians should not perpetuate it!

The sexual anarchy movement has inactive/apathetic Christians to thank for that.

You won't get any argument from me on this.

Homosexuality is at the forefront of the culture war at this time. We must defeat this movement before we start taking on others. (abortion, pornography, cohabitation, no-fault divorce, adultery).

You choose to focus on homosexuality. That's a small faction of what you call the sexual anarchy movement which you honor too much by calling it that. If you think about it, even the term homosexuality lends too much legitimacy to it. Call the spade what it is...an abomination in the eyes of God. And therein lies our clue to what our action should be and what the movement should be called: the walking away from God movement. If we approach the abomination from a secular battle ground view, we can use the health aspect against it. It started to go that way with the revelation of AIDS among these sinners but when AIDS started spreading among heterosexuals, the battle leveled and drew an uncomfortable eye to the sexual practices of heteros. We could lay a foot on the neck of the abomination by focusing on the negative health aspect of sodomy for all peoples. Condoms do not offset the negative health aspects. This secular action could make a dent. The best action would be to, as one Christian entity, point people to God and act in accordance with God's recommendations for His people. Shun evil doers until they repent and that includes sanctioning participating denominations such as the Presbyterians, Episcopalians, United Church of Christ, Unitarian Universalists, Reform and Reconstructionist Jews.

Right. This is the crux of it. In many ways, vast amounts of people are supportive of same sex marriage and gays because:

1. They identify with them. They live similarly and view sexuality similarly.

2. With all the no-fault divorce, excessive feminism (excessive, I said, and not just plain equity feminism) and sexual anarchy, their attitude toward gays is, "I'll say nothing about you, if you say nothing about me. "

I would say it is more because they are out of touch with God's plan and God's plan is strongly under attack. We should be screaming from the highest rooftops right now with all these liberal judges reversing the will of the people regarding the Defense of Marriage Act. And also with Jerry Brown for declaring it illegal to refer to ones spouse as husband or wife, a strong violation of the separation of church and state.

Yes, this last is deeply disturbing. And I am also surprised at the complicity of Governors in the face of the federal judges.

We have to be careful how we address this sin. It's not a lifestyle unless one considers willful disobedience to God a good thing. God calls this sin an abomination. In other words, it really disgusts Him and is a direct attack against Him and His plan for men and women. Every time we call it a lifestyle we're lending legitimacy to it and we can not do that.

first the bible lists about 150 abominations most if not all of which modern Christians don't give two cents about.

Second there is no such thing as a "gay lifestyle" than there is a black lifestyle

shame on those liberal judges for doing something so radical as referring to the constitution. next thing you know those radical liberal activist judges will be defying the will of the people and saying that laws against interracial marriage or segregated schools are unconstitutional.

Do you really think it can be called a sexual anarchy movement? Why not call the spade what it is? it's the major walking away from God movement.

That term covers a wide spectrum. Those who are socialists, for illegal immigration and pro recreational drug legalization fit into that category as well. As my signature shows, the term sexual anarchy is quite descriptive.

You choose to focus on homosexuality. That's a small faction of what you call the sexual anarchy movement which you honor too much by calling it that...

One battle at a time has to be fought in this culture war. Concentrate on the one that is currently being fought, not those that have already been lost.
Also keep in mind that one not need believe in God to acknowledge that homosexuality is a not only a pubic health issue, but a threat to innocent children and our society's most valuable institutions (those who are secular can become allies of believers in this culture war).

It started to go that way with the revelation of AIDS among these sinners but when AIDS started spreading among heterosexuals, the battle leveled and drew an uncomfortable eye to the sexual practices of heteros.

If you're a junky, a hooker or have sex with a bisexual male, you have to worry about AIDS. Other than that, AIDS is pretty much a homosexual disease.

And here's the reason why: I've shown throughout the 3 part thread that the homosexual and abortion movements are one in the same. You can't allow one to grow like an out of control cancer, and expect to defeat the other, as they're both part of the sexual anarchy movement.

Yes - you are correct. I think what I meant is that it is very difficult for anyone to "celebrate" abortion - even pro-choice persons. We know that they are in fact celebrating the gay lifestyle...

Obviously you don't know what goes on at NARAL/Planned Parenthood/ACLU dinners GFR7.

Rauner attends ACLU abortion celebration, skips Illinois Right to Life dinner

CHICAGO - Celebrating reproductive rights, and keynoted by Congressman Jan Schakowsky, both the Republican and Democrat gubernatorial candidates made an appearance at the Illinois chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union annual Bill of Rights Dinner Saturday night in Chicago. A first, according to Ed Yohnka, the communications director for the organization.

"Congresswoman Schakowsky spoke with confidence that reproductive freedom will continue to be protected throughout the states," Yohnka said, alluding to ACLU-Illinois' success in warding off attempts to restrict abortion in Illinois.

NARAL to Host 'America's Pro-Choice/Pro-Chocolate Celebration'

The nation’s leading organization that engages politically to expand access to abortion is celebrating with a “Pro-Choice/Pro-Chocolate” competitive event.

April 24, 2014

NARAL states the event is back “by popular demand” and will be held on May 8th in Philadelphia at The Ethical Society Building. According to the website, participants will be invited to “mingle with your pro-choice friends and enjoy delicious chocolate treats, champagne, coffee, tea – and even a chocolate martini fountain!”

Chocolate submissions by “some of Philadelphia’s most talented chocolatiers and pastry chefs” will be competing for judges’ prizes and the People’s Choice Award.

The evening’s special guest will be Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL. Participating celebrity judges will be Sally Kohn, CNN contributor and columnist for the Daily Beast; Pennsylvania state Sen. Vincent Hughes; Pennsylvania state Rep. Brian Sims; former U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Murphy; and Philadelphia City Council member Cindy Bass.

Tickets to the event range from $50, which purchases one ticket, to the “Connoisseur” $1,000 level, which gets the buyer 16 tickets to the event, four mugs, a large sampler box of chocolate treats, a listing in the invitation and program, and an acknowledgment at the event...

And then there is this kind of celebration:

“Kasey ...: THRU UP ALL OVER MY ED HARDY SKIRT THIS MORNING…DONT KNO WHETHER IT’S MORNING SICKNESS OR THE 10 SHOTS OF BACARDI LAST NIGHT…*&^#$%!!!! THINKING OF GETTING THE ABORTION AFTER ALL.”

“Kasey ....: A BIG THANKS TO MY FRIENDS Matthew..., Savannah ..., AND Katie ... FOR CONVINCING ME THAT GOD WILL 4GIVE ME IF I HAV AN ABORTION!!!!!!! APPOINTMENT SET FOR TOMARROW! CNT WAIT FOR THE ABORTION CELEBRATION PARTY IN PALM SPRINGS! THIS BABY DEAD.”

Hence the reason the homosexual-abortion movement is called a "death culture".

Didn't you say that you've been a student of Peter LaBarbera and Massresistance for 8 years GFR7? How come you don't know anything about the abortion movement, as both talk about it frequently.

I really did not know this. Yes, I have indeed been reading MassRessistance and LaBarbera for years (really following LaBarbera obsessively, in fact) and I am subscribed to both,(also a contributor to Brian Brown and NOM) and get regular updates - but my interest was always what they had to say about the homosexual agenda. I don't like abortion but had not read in-depth anything written about it. I am surprised. I know the 2 movements were linked, but my dyadic interest was always feminism-LGBTQ agenda (abortion I viewed as a consequence of feminism and sexual revolution).

LaBarbera calls his site AFTAH (Americas For Truth About Homosexuality) and in fact I recall very little about abortion on it--though it may have been written on at times.

I am in fact surprised. Ugh. And not pleasantly. That was awful :nono:

I find it hard to believe that someone could be a student of Peter LaBarbera and other good Christian conservatives and not know about the close tie between abortion and homosexuality. Perhaps you weren't reading the articles but instead were more focused on the pictures?

This is pathetic even for you aCW.
Would an honest debater really need to use unattributed internet quotes originally from a site called "awkwardmessages.com" (it concentrates on " jaw-dropping messages" that "are sent and received each day").
The blatant misinformation that you attempt to pass off as genuine and typical is what is actually "jaw dropping", you make no attempt at being balanced or fair which is why even here your credibility just keeps bumping along the bottom.:plain:

No - I was focused on reading the articles about the rainbow agenda. I really have always avoided anything to do with abortion (intentionally- if I see that word in the title, I skip the article). I was already aware that it was linked to the "culture of death" in the Christian interpretation. I know my history and what I've read, by the way. LaBarbera has been someone I've subscribed to because personally, I think he is an awesome man. Brian Brown, due to his intelligence on same sex marriage. MassResistance I subscribed to back when I was a FReeper, on Free Republic . :chuckle:

Sorry, I don't have time to patronize, but if you need to see it that way, so be it. (Are you sure you know what "patronize" means? It means to condescend toward others as being ignorant and to be appeased. I know I'm not doing this. What did you want me to say, that that abortion story was uplifting? Geez..... :nono:)

A few years ago I was in a tavern out near the University of Washington playing some pinball and sipping on a cold one when I overheard a group of college students talking. A guy, probably in his early 20's, was talking to a couple of girls who were about the same age about someone who had become pregnant and was getting an abortion.

I remember to this day how nonchalant the conversation was; in fact I've heard conversations about the weather with more emotion.

We live in a death culture Al, there is no denying it.

In the '80s, my cousin had an abortion because she would begin showing in July, and it would ruin how she looked in a bikini. She didn't understand anyone who recoiled in horror. I also had an Aunt who got an abortion with her third pregnancy (a perfectly healthy pregnancy) because she had a boy and a girl and felt there was no need to have a third child. I have been long aware that this attitude prevailed within my own family - I just assumed that was because my family is excessively pathological. (I really have not heard this talk outside of my family).

FTR aCW my position on abortion is basically one of pro-choice. What I mean by that is a reasonable and prompt opportunity to choose to remain pregnant or not, which should be available as a free option. Otoh I'm not in favour of later changes of mind without good reason only that a reasonable choice is available.
I would need to know rather more details about individual circumstances to which I may then accept as reasonable or voice my doubts and perhaps even disapproval.

If the sort of attitude you quoted previously is as common as you seem to suggest it is and that abortions presumably at any time during pregnancy are typically treated so casually then it is surprising imo that you needed to hunt down unattributed and more bizarre comments from awkwardmessages.com, who seem to specialise in that kind of thing.
Perhaps you couldn't find any prominent and attributable people to quote, only random texts from anonymous nutters?

Then again perhaps you find my own pro-choice position is a part of your "death culture"?
If so then by all means please quote me, I like to be helpful. :plain:
