Persecution of homosexuals in Nazi Germany and the Holocaust

The pink triangle, rendered in hot pink as a gay pride and gay rights symbol, was originally rendered in pink and used pointed downward on a Nazi concentration camp badge to denote homosexual men.Upon the rise of Adolf Hitler, gay men and, to a lesser extent, lesbians, were two of the numerous groups targeted by the Nazi Party and were ultimately among Holocaust victims. Beginning in 1933, gay organizations were banned, scholarly books about homosexuality, and sexuality in general, were burned, and homosexuals within the Nazi Party itself were murdered. The Gestapo compiled lists of homosexuals, who were compelled to sexually conform to the "German norm."

Between 1933 and 1945, an estimated 100,000 men were arrested as homosexuals, of whom some 50,000 were officially sentenced. Most of these men served time in regular prisons, and an estimated 5,000 to 15,000 of those sentenced were incarcerated in Nazi concentration camps. It is unclear how many of the 5,000 to 15,000 eventually perished in the camps, but leading scholar Rüdiger Lautmann believes that the death rate of homosexuals in concentration camps may have been as high as 60%. Homosexuals in the camps were treated in an unusually cruel manner by their captors.

After the war, the treatment of homosexuals in concentration camps went unacknowledged by most countries, and some men were even re-arrested and imprisoned based on evidence found during the Nazi years. It was not until the 1980s that governments began to acknowledge this episode, and not until 2002 that the German government apologized to the gay community.

Nobody can truly know Hitler's sexual orientation and accusing a leader of being "gay" is a commonly used tactic to characterize the whole organization.

What we do know is that the crimminalization, arrest and incarceration of homosexuals that occured in Nazi Germany closely follows the path that "aCultureWarrior" is advocating!

There are numerous quotes from prominent Nazi leaders and sympathizers advocating the imposition of harsh measures on those viewed as having a negative impact on society.

These quotes are virtually interchangeable with the opinions currently being expressed by many conservative Americans - often cloaked in the guise of Christianity!

Well, obviously the above isn't accurate. The Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, children, disabled, elderly, communists, socialists, Jehovah Witnesses and other religious groups (millions of Catholics) and Slavic people weren't murdered because they weren't part of a "Master Race", they were murdered because of their "materialism" (obviously they went shopping on Thanksgiving and instead of staying home celebrating the Christian holiday with their families, they were out getting great deals at places like KMart. Yes, I can see why that good Christian Adolf Hitler murdered them like he did, because they were "materialistic").

This was all done in the name of Christianity and the cleansing of society from unhealthy/sinful influences - basically the same rationale that is being used today and in this thread!

'Drama queen rants' are typically angry, impassioned and vitriolic outbursts as well as usually being petulant and narcissistic also. On an internet forum that can come over by 'shouting' (typing in all caps, possibly emboldened) or over use of exclamation marks for 'emphasis'. It can also be marked via self obsessed egotism masquerading as honesty - such as someone having a three year blog and boasting and advocating how good it is.

If there's any words you're not familiar with then I'm sure you'll have availed yourself of a dictionary and thesaurus by now.

Unlike the Muslim, Hindu and atheist countries that you listed, righteous laws in Christianized countries such as the US encourage those people who have morally lost their way to repent their sinful behavior and return to living a righteous life.

Which reminds me, I should do a segment on prison ministries and how secular humanists such as yourself are making it difficult for prison ministers to help those who so desperately need Christ in their life.
