Praise the Lord!

Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden.
Jeremiah 31:12

:poly:

The Garden of My Heart

There’s a sacred and hallowed retreat,
Where my soul finds a fellowship sweet,
Where the Lord of my life I may meet,
In the garden of my heart.

There is naught can disturb or molest,
There my spirit finds comfort and rest,
And my soul is no longer distressed
In the garden of my heart.

Shut away from earth’s strife and its din,
And protected from soul staining sin,
For my Savior is dwelling within,
In the garden of my heart.

There the dove of sweet peace always sings,
And my faith ever trustingly clings;
And the chime of sweet happiness rings
In the garden of my heart.

In the cool of the day He walks with me,
In the rose bordered way He talks with me;
In love’s holy union, and sacred communion,
In the garden of my heart.

Evening Praise the Lord.

:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.
Psalm 116:15

My beloved has gone to his garden...to gather lilies.
Song of Solomon 6:2
It is His garden, and they are His lilies.

:poly:

The Gardener

While we are tending our earthly gardens,
The Gardener lends us His seeds to sow,
The bulbs of His lilies, the roots of His roses,
To plant and cherish and watch them grow.

Sometimes He comes when the day is over
And garners a sheaf of the full-grown wheat,
Ripe for the harvest and waiting the sickle,
Ready to fall at the Reaper’s feet.

And sometimes He comes in the early morning
And tenderly gathers the sweetest flowers,
The buds of the lily, the rose half-opened:
Shall we not joy when He chooses ours?

Shall we not yield God our loveliest blossoms,
Glad that He finds them so fragrant and fair,
Worthy transplanting to heavenly gardens,
To gain new beauty beneath His care?

Never a storm shall sweep over His flowers,
Nor drought shall wither, nor frost shall blight;
About His feet they shall grow unfading,
And bloom forever in His pure sight.

Praise the Lord!

I have set the LORD always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

Psalm 16:8

:poly:

I Have Set the Lord

I set Thy love between the world and me,
O Lord, it cruelty, its wrong, its scorn;
They cannot reach me through Thy tenderness
That once for me their worst has known and borne.

I set Thy cross between my sins and me,
That so their shadow darken not my days,
Nor rob my nights of rest, Thy blood blots out
The long indictment from my shrinking gaze.

I set Thy prayers between my doubts and me,
That so my faith shall fail not, but abide,
Though tried and tested sore; that shield shall serve
All fiery darts to quench or turn aside.

I set Thy strength between my foes and me,
And walk, so guarded, panoplied and girt,
Through dangers seen and unseen, unafraid;
Through flames unscorched and raging waves unhurt.

I set Thy thoughts between my thoughts and me,
The calm, pure visions of Thy holy mind,
Till nothing that disturbs me or defiles,
Into my heart or soul can entrance find.

I set Thy self between my self and me,
And losing mine, Thy life abundant gain;
Take Thy sufficiency for my deep need,
And to Thy perfect stature so attain.

:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
Ephesians 5:1

:poly:

Be Now Imitators of Your Lord

Be now imitators of your Lord
You’re His children through His love out poured.
Let love show now in all you do,
As Christ loved and gave Himself for you,
As a sacrifice to God.
All impurity put far away.
Don’t be greedy; watch the things you say.
These aren’t proper for God’s dear children;
You will never gain the wealth of Heaven,
In the kingdom of Christ and God.

Don’t be taken in by empty words;
Those who disobey, God’s wrath incur.
You were darkness, but now you’re light;
Let your life be good and true and right,
And find out what pleases God.
Stay away from fruitless deeds,
Done in secret out of lust and greed.
Let Christ’s light shine on all that’s dark,
And expose what’s missed God’s mark.
Bring to light every sinful act.

So be careful in the things you do;
Act with wisdom in whate’er you pursue.
Make the most of every hour;
Don’t let evil exercise its power.
Be not foolish, but know God’s will.
Let the Spirit now your life control,
And let psalms and hymns flow from your soul.
In your heart, speak to God and sing,
Giving thanks for everything,
In the name of Jesus Christ.

Praise the Lord!

All Your works shall praise You, O LORD, and Your saints shall bless You.
They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power,
To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

Psalm 145:10-13

:poly:

The Measures of God

His wrath the seven vials hold,
The seven trumps His judgments sound;
But what can span the love of God,
And what His goodness bound?

The seven woes shall have an end,
The seven plagues His hand shall stay:
But when shall His compassions fail,
His kindness pass away?

The dust of earth He measures out,
He numbers all the stars of space,
His mighty scales the mountains weigh;
But what can weigh His grace?

His fingers spread the heavens forth,
He cups the seas within His hand;
But who His mercies can compute;
Unnumbered as the sand?

The wickedness of men shall pass,
And death shall die, and wars shall cease;
But still His covenant shall stand
Of righteousness and peace.

And when men's measured thread is spun,
His finished tale of days is told,
When all earth's numbered years are done
And Time itself grows old

Then shall God's long eternities
Their unmarked course have yet to run,
And His uncounted eon-hours
Be only just begun.

Praise the Lord!

But no one says, “Where is God my Maker.”
Who gives songs in the night.

Job 35:10

You (LORD) are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

Psalm 32:7

:poly:

Songs in the Night

We make our songs in the day of our gladness,
When life is all laughter and joy and delight,
When never a shadow has clouded our sunshine;
But God giveth songs in the night!
He giveth songs in the night of our sorrow,
When tears are our drink and when grief is our meat,
Till we silence our weeping and still our repining
To list to those cadences sweet.

God giveth songs in the night of affliction,
When earth has no sun and the heavens no star;
Like a comforting touch in the desolate darkness
His voice stealeth in from afar.
He giveth songs and His music is sweeter
Than earth's greatest voices and gladdest refrains;
Our loveliest melodies shade to the minor,
But His keep their full major strains.

He giveth songs when our music is over,
When our voices falter and our tongues are mute;
When trembling hands drop from the lute and the harp-strings,
And hushed are the viol and flute.
Give us Thy songs, O Thou Maker of music!
Teach us to sing, O Thou Bringer of joy!
Till nothing can silence the notes of our triumph
And naught our rejoicing destroy!

From the Inside Out

A thousand times I've failed
Still your mercy remains
Should I stumble again
Still I'm caught in your grace
Everlasting, your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, your glory goes beyond all fame

Your will above all else
My purpose remains
The art of losing myself in bringing you praise
Everlasting, your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, your glory goes beyond all fame

In my heart, in my soul
I give you control
Consume me from the inside out
Let justice and praise
Become my embrace
To love you from the inside out

Everlasting, your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart is to bring you praise
From the inside out
Lord my soul cries out to You..

Mark 7:37
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!

Psalm 84:11-12

A Thanksgiving for Hard Things

Thank You, my Father that Your wisest choosing,
To my own wayward heart is ever proving,
That some glad joy I longed my life to garnish,
Would but have left me marred with rust and tarnish.
Thank You, Lord, for that most kind depriving,
Which mercifully withstood my soul's mad driving,
And kept me from some greater, horribler loss,
While teaching me the glory of Thy cross.

Thank You that the smaller scars I have sustained,
Have kept me, Lord, from what I might have gained,
Of deeper wounds that span the years of life,
And bear the loathsome fruit of constant strife.
Thank You for Your thoughtful little tokens,
Reminding that I'm loved, though sorely broken;
And so I find these smaller blessings meet,
To bring me here in worship at Thy feet.

Thank You, Lord, that that which seemeth good to Thee,
Hath overruled that which seemed so good to me,
And so withheld some earthly satisfaction,
That I might serve Thee here without distraction.
O Thank You, God, that confidence yet growing,
Can rest in Thy great wisdom, safely knowing,
Though troubles come which I can never tell,
Yet my Redeemer doeth all things well.

Praise the Lord!

...for you are strangers and sojourners with me...
Leviticus 25:23

:poly:

Pilgrims In the Wilderness

We’re pilgrims in the wilderness, our dwelling is a camp;
Created things, though pleasant, now bear to us death’s stamp.
But onward we are speeding, though often let and tried;
The Holy Ghost is leading home to the Lamb, His bride.

With fellow pilgrims meeting, as through the waste we roam,
’Tis sweet to sing together, “We are not far from home!”
And when we’ve learned our lesson, our work, in suffering, done,
Our ever loving Father will welcome every one.

We look to meet our company from every distant shore,
Not one will seem a stranger, though never seen before,
With angel hosts attending, in myriads, through the sky;
Yet ’midst them all Thou only, O Lord, wilt fix the eye!

Lord, since we sing as pilgrims, O give us pilgrims’ ways!
Humble thoughts of self, befitting proclaimers of Thy praise,
O make us each more holy, in spirit, pure and meek,
More like to heavenly citizens, as more of Thee we speak.

Psalmist, I'm not a poet, but here is my attempt to praise My Lord.

O LORD, who created mankind and then rescued us all,
It is upon your name I call
In the morning, during daylight, and at night.

Daily LORD you love, teach, comfort, inspire, and sustain me.
Secure is forgiveness in thee.
Your encouragement is a heart-felt blessing.

Thank you LORD for your mercy, care, and gift of salvation.
To me is your revelation
Wonderful for the hope I have

in thee.

Joshua 1:9

Sunday Morning Praise

God of Grace and God of Glory

God of grace and God of glory, on Thy people pour Thy power.
Crown Thy church’s story, bring her bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour.

Lo! the hosts of evil ’round us, scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways.
From the fears that long have bound us, free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days.

Cure Thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to Thy control.
Shame our wanton selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, lest we miss Thy kingdom’s goal.

Set our feet on lofty places, gird our lives that they may be,
Armored with all Christ-like graces, in the fight to set men free.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, that we fail not man nor Thee.

Save us from weak resignation, to the evils we deplore.
Let the search for Thy salvation, be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving Thee whom we adore.

The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

Numbers 6:24-26

God be merciful to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us.

Psalm 67:1

:poly:

God of Mercy, God of Grace

God of mercy, God of grace,
Show the brightness of Thy face;
Shine upon us, Savior, shine,
Fill Thy Church with light divine,
And Thy saving health extend,
Unto earth’s remotest end.

Let the people praise Thee, Lord!
Be by all that live adored;
Let the nations shout and sing
Glory to their Savior King,
At Thy feet their tribute pay,
And Thy holy will obey.

Let the people praise Thee, Lord!
Earth shall then her fruits afford,
God to man His blessings give,
Man to God devoted live;
All below and all above
One in joy and light and love.

Praise the Lord!

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Matthew 23:12

:poly:

The Willow and the Oak

I saw, when the wind swept over the mead,
The willow that stands by the brook;
Bending low, as, with pitiless force, the storm
Threw down the unbending oak.

The storm had passed by, the willow uprose,
Her branches in beauty outspread;
But the monarch of trees, in his pride cast down,
Lay prone on the earth and dead.

O Christians, look up! life’s storms will soon pass;
Rejoice ye with sorrow low bowed;
Our Lord in His hand holds the lightning’s shaft,
His smile is behind the cloud.

And thou, who art proud, O turn ye in time,
Nor fall as the desolate tree!
God’s mercy, His infinite love are thine,
Awaiting, inviting thee.

Bend low till the storm passeth over,
The sun will shine out by and by;
Bend low till the storm passeth over,
And the stars twinkle out in the sky.

Be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.
1 Peter 5:5

:poly:

Clothe Yourself With Humilty

Clothe yourself with humility;
Don’t try to take first place.
For God opposes all the proud,
But gives the humble grace.
Humble yourself beneath God’s hand;
Someday He’ll lift you high.
Cast your anxiety on Him;
His care will never die.

Be self-controlled and on alert;
Satan is prowling round.
He’s like a lion seeking prey;
Stand firm and don’t give ground.
Stand firm and steadfast in the faith;
You’re not alone in trial.
Your Christian brothers round the earth
Suffer like you a while.

The God of grace will see you through;
Someday His face you’ll see.
You’ll share the glory of His Son
For all eternity.
And after you have suffered here,
God will remove your care.
He’ll make you strong, steadfast, and firm;
His be the power fore’er!

Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you.
Psalm 55:22
Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7
He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.
Isaiah 40:29
He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you...”
2 Corinthians 12:9

:poly:

Grace Sufficient for Me

“My grace is,” not “was,” not “maybe,” but it’s flowing
Each hour and each moment my need to supply,
The deeper I dip, still the deeper ’tis growing,
No drought can diminish or dry;
My heart from the future no trouble shall borrow;
Eternal this present provision shall be,
Assured for today and as sure for tomorrow,
Such grace is sufficient for me.

“My grace is sufficient.” Oh, help without measure!
An ocean of riches no plummet can sound,
A storehouse unfailing of infinite treasure,
A gift without limit or bound;
Exceeding abundant for all His creation,
Enough for the thorn that is buffeting me,
The fullness of God for earth’s brief tribulation,
“My grace is sufficient for thee.”

“Sufficient for thee,” for my utmost salvation,
As though ne'er another had owed Him a debt;
For my special grief and my special temptation,
My cares and my sins that beset;
He giveth more grace for my humble endeavor;
I am praising Him now, I shall praise Him forever;
His grace is sufficient for me,
Yes His grace is sufficient for me.

My grace is sufficient for you.
2 Corinthians 12:9

He gives more grace.
James 4:6

:poly:

He Giveth More Grace

He giveth more grace as our burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength as our labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials He multiplies peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,
with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

:poly:

Be Not Anxious

I cannot change the yesterday when I distrusted Thee,
Though all my fears unfounded proved, and shame me now as then;
I cannot promise that my faith will last throughout the night,
Or that, when Thy tomorrow comes, I will not doubt again.

But grant, O faithful Lord and true, that I may trust Thee now,
Just now, each moment of each hour of this Thy present day;
That, looking backward, I may read the record of the past,
And, forward, see Thy steadfast word light all the future way.

With Memory to guard the rear and Faith to lead the van,
And all Thy tested promises like beacon lights to shine,
How can I dread that demon shape of anxious, faithless fear?
For he shall lose his power when I fully trust in Thine.

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

:poly:

The Things Which are Behind

Leave behind earth’s empty pleasure,
Fleeting hope and changeful love;
Leave its soon-corroding treasure;
There are better things above.

Leave, oh, leave thy fond aspirings,
Bid thy restless heart be still;
Cease, oh cease, thy vain desirings,
Only seek thy Father’s will.

Leave behind thy faithless sorrow,
And thine every anxious care;
He who only knows the morrow
Can for thee its burden bear.

Leave behind the doubting spirit,
And thy crushing load of sin;
By thy mighty Saviour’s merit,
Life eternal thou shalt win.

Leave the darkness gathering o’er thee,
Leave the shadow-land behind;
Realms of glory lie before thee;
Enter in, and welcome find.
