Drought on west coast causing removal of crops

The drought on the west coast is affecting the food supply already. Farmers in California are removing entire orchards that used to be producing almonds. The trees are already dead from lack of water and this is just the beginning of the drought.

On a personal note I was talking to my next door neighbor today. He's owned his home for 15 years and says his lawn has never had brown spots by the first of June. This year his lawn is already turning brown because of the lack of precipitation this year, including the lack of snowfall. We never had more than 3-4 inches of snow on the ground at any one time this winter. The last 5 years we've had a snow cover of at least 18" every winter for months at a time. And where I live we are on the edge of the drought.
