The problem with most eschatology interpretations is that they completely misunderstand what the great tribulation is.
Preterists think it is the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE, futurists think it is some magical 3-1/2 years in the future which they claim is the last half of the seventy weeks of Daniel 9 split off from the rest.

The great tribulation is really a long exile of the children of Israel from the land of promise.
After the great tribulation ends, Jesus will return to set up the thousand year kingdom.
