Cool TOL History, and the old schoolers still here.......

    Hi Knight,

Just a refresher. I was talking to another member about being part of the 'ole guard' here, seeing how long some of us have been here and still regularly or at least periodically posting. I joined in 2003, but looking at your join date of 2002, got me thinking. Just when did you start TOL? - I thought your 'join date' was earlier. Just trying to get a demograph of members here, so we can catagorize folks into different leagues as far as 'veterans' or 'seniority' goes,....just curious. Could make for an interesting thread, about the 'vets' here

It is a quote of the character played by Tommy Lee Jones (Knight's avatar) in the movie No Country For Old Men.

I started TOL in 1997. Here is the visual history archive. Now in 2002 we changed the software that TOL ran on to a completely different setup and everyone had to re-gegister. That's why there are no members with join dates prior to 2002.

After 20 years of TOL, you can use another quote of a Tommy Lee Jones character - Captain Woodrow F. Call.

REPORTER: They say you are a man of vision, is that true?

CALL: A man of vision you say. Yeah, a hell of a vision.

It's been a hell of a ride, Knight!

    A simple solution:

ublock origin: less memory used than Ad-block, full control of what you want to see and do not want to see

    Chrome:
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...jbkeiagm?hl=en

    Firefox:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ublock-origin/

    Opera:
    https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/ublock/

    Edge:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/stor...n/9nblggh444l4

Even supports deleting offensive avatars of some TOL users.

Knight, I'm asking that you consider placing Nazi symbols as prohibited avatars for TOL. Trad brought this to my mind and I think the association of that symbol is profane.

I decided to ask this as I considered a photo of a woman who is about to lose her life. She clutches her child, whom she cannot protect, to her breast. They have stripped her and the child first, taking any semblance of dignity before taking their lives... I cannot imagine the horror and heartache of that woman, how that reality must have been, the sort of hell no parent should have to endure, no person should ever visit upon another.

That is what Nazi symbols embody. They are an offense to every decent idea we have hoped to aspire to. I argue they should be as rejected and with better reason as any other profanity uttered by men.

    Knight,

Whenever someone has quoted one my posts, it shows up in the "notifications" tab. I click on that tab and then click on the "quotations" tab and it takes me to a screen where there is a whole list of when I've been quoted or when I've quoted other people.

How do I get to that screen if there are no unread notifications?

I can't believe I never noticed the "quotes" tab on the profile page.
