Chrysostom
A Third John
who also am your brother was in Ephesus not too far from Patmos in the year 401 when Jerome was finishing the Vulgate 405. The big question was whether it should include the Apocalypse. Jerome had to be convinced it was written by John the Apostle. Chrysostom would also need that proof. He had three months to get it.

A Number

dots are difficult to connect. Look for the numbers. You can't misinterpret them. The translators all agree on the numbers. Except for dates. Historians love dates but they often can't get them right. They can't even agree on which calendar to use. Who gets to start a calendar? Mark your calendar. Save a date.

A Connection
of dots that fit with what you know. To reveal a clearer picture, missing dots must be added. History and numbers will limit the placement of these dots. Your interpretation is limited only by your agenda and we all have one. History and numbers can be trusted. Your interpretation, not so much.

understanding

A Good Thing

suggested by Augustine.

"What then, Brothers, shall we keep silence?
Why then read it if only to keep silence about it? Or
why hear it if it is not to be explained? But also,
why explain it if it is not to be understood?"

The next big prophetic event will be either the Jews' building a new temple in Jerusalem, or the coming of the "man of sin/beast from the sea/antichrist/son of perdition" to power. Then will come the rapture, the Gog-Magog war, abomination of desolation, mark of the beast, great trib, & Jesus' physical return.

Fortunately for those who are saved, saved according to meeting the two requirements to receive salvation in Romans 10:9, those that have received salvation from God, are saved/delivered from the wrath to come.

Romans 5:9

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

I Thessalonians 1:10

And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

a reasonable explanation

A Good Thing
that helps make sense of what we experience. What makes an explanation reasonable? It fits. It is consistent with what we already know. A piece of the puzzle must fit to be part of the big picture. There must be a reason. A good one. Look for it.

Do you ever wake up and think, "gosh, I've wasted 6+ years studying a book that has added virtually nothing positive to mankind in over a 1000 years..."

the future
A Place
for your interpretation. It will always fit. Just ignore history that will never fit. Just ignore numbers and colors that all the bible versions agree on. Your agenda, and we all have one, needs scripture to support it. That too often is the easy part. Translating the bible is not an exact science. We have at least 59 different English versions. Find one that works for you.

interpretation
A Reliable Thing
if based on history with numbers and colors. The translators of 59 different English versions of the bible all agree on numbers and colors. Applying this to history can result in a reliable interpretation of what has been prophesied. You can't trust anything or anyone else.

A Book
and was told to prophesy again. This suggests a second writer of the Apocalypse and why John seems to introduce himself more than once in chapter one. Multiple writers have been suggested by multiple commentaries. It addresses why there is little agreement as to when it was written and who wrote it.
