In Every State.

The United States birth rate remains well below the replacement level needed as white American births plummet in all 50 states and the District of Colombia.

It is not just White American births that are below replacement level.

'Remarkable' decline in fertility rates

There has been a remarkable global decline in the number of children women are having, say researchers.

Their report found fertility rate falls meant nearly half of countries were now facing a "baby bust" - meaning there are insufficient children to maintain their population size.

The researchers said the findings were a "huge surprise".

And there would be profound consequences for societies with "more grandparents than grandchildren".

Why is the fertility rate falling?
The fall in fertility rate is not down to sperm counts or any of the things that normally come to mind when thinking of fertility.

Instead it is being put down to three key factors:

  • Fewer deaths in childhood meaning women have fewer babies
  • Greater access to contraception
  • More women in education and work

In many ways, falling fertility rates are a success story.

It's a consequence of making kids really expensive to have and raise. Ironically, this affects the affluent more than the poor. It happens to Latinos, also, when they get affluent:

Birth rates among Latinas are at an all-time low, piquing the attention of demographers and sociologists.

“The intensity of the drop, particularly of Hispanics and immigrants, is very striking,” said Gretchen Livingston, senior researcher from Pew Research Center.

What is so intriguing, they say, is that the numbers go beyond the economy's dip and seem to correlate – at least in part – to a growing prosperity among Latinos.

The states of the American Heartland - that tier of states above and including Texas - plus Utah, Idaho and Iowa still have birth rates close to 2 per 1,000 women which is very close to replacement level. It is the Northeast which has birth rates well below replacement level.

Kids are hard to afford. Fertility is down. Sperm counts are down. Testosterone is down.

Birth rates are actually down globally. Interestingly Indian and Kenyan labs claim to have found sterilization agents in vaccinations. Could be part of what is going on not likely the whole culprit.

The only ones that race actually matter to are the media and racists (oops, I'm being redundant).

Let me get this straight.
The two of you think that middle and upper class people are trying to cut costs by having fewer children,

Yep.
http://theconversation.com/baby-bus...sive-it-is-to-have-kids-in-the-us-today-91532

but lower class and poor people have more children because they can afford them?

Nope.

You're assuming that everyone has access to birth control, and that the poor make better economic decisions than middle-class and wealthy families.
