Tell me this: If someone approached you on a plane the way he was approached, how would you react? Would you call the police and insist that he be arrested?

Clarke was clearly offended that an someone would treat him like an ordinary citizen. In a country where the Supreme Court has ruled that no one is legally obligated to treat any government official with even polite respect, Clarke was way out of line.

He's precisely the sort of person who should not be allowed to have any power over others.

Has anyone seen his Twitter work? One of the most recent had a Winston Churchill photo and quote, followed by the former sheriff's,

"This meme epitomizes the attitude of the LYING LIB MEDIA and their goon liberal followers. Two UNFOUNDED twitter complaints were made yesterday against me as I PUNKED THEM OUT for a drive-by hit job they did with FAKE NEWS. When they get hit back they run to mommy to whine."

That, folks, is the maturity level I've been speaking to.

"Patriot Frederick Douglas embodied the same spirit and courage I have and we should ALL have against the suppression of speech in political discourse by the left. He died working to give all of us freedom of expression regardless of what some find uncomfortable about what is said."

Notice that his lead is self-aggrandizement first, point second?

"I will NOT be Intimidated into silence by LYING LIB MEDIA. I will NOT be intimidated by LIBERAL hyper partisan government HACKS who weaponize government authorirty to go after people whose views they don't like. I will STAND AND FIGHT for TRUTH & what I believe is RIGHT. JOIN ME."

I wonder if he realizes who controls the government these days and which news media is the self-proclaimed leader from which most Americans get their news...and shouldn't that be "Join the fight"?

Or this gem:

"Poor Lizzie will never live down the FACT, that she LIED on application to get a teaching position! Has she paid Harvard back for taking money under FALSE PRETENSE? Pathetic!"

Except she didn't lie about it and the claim advanced by her family never actually got her a teaching position at Harvard or anywhere else.

A personal favorite, because it does go back to Clarke's idea of reasonable responses to things he doesn't like.

"I keep warning the LYING LIB MEDIA and their liberal goons NOT TO POKE THE DOG because I BITE BACK. They continue to think I will take their DRIVE-BY HIT SMEARS lying down. I WASN’T BUILT TO BACK DOWN. They are not used to THIS conservative’s style of SMASH-MOUTH POLITICS #MAGA."

And yes, that's the photo he attached. :plain: Back to his idea of reasonable response. And the drive-by smear is especially funny given his use of social media, both with Mr. Black and presently.

They sacrifice their own when needed, the supreme court are players and have a symbiotic relationship with corporate agenda that is supposed to legally treat its stock humanely but certain grey areas between legal and lawful leave doubts on what is, is.

He's like the proverbial internet 'tough guy', all swagger and bravado and unfortunately with a badge to abuse it, until now thankfully.

Clarke didn't have him arrested.
And as I said before if Clarke had witnessed Black go up to someone else and have the same exchange he would have been justified in having him questioned.

He can and should be free to say anything that doesn't rise to the actionable. If he'd tried to follow Clarke about, made gestures that were threatening, any number of things would cross the line.
He followed him from Texas to Milwaukee! (he was sitting behind him on the plane).
How would Clarke know if he was making threatening gestures if he was sitting behind him?

That's why he had him questioned. And said no arrest unless he turns it into one.

Is there a problem? Do you mean that person harm?

His career in law enforcement began in 1978 at the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD). He "rose through the ranks at a slow but steady pace in his 24 years with the department." Clarke was a patrol officer for eleven years and then a homicide detective; he was promoted to lieutenant of detectives in 1993 and captain in 1999.[5]
That's not Swagger or Bravado, He's the real deal.
If you can't respect the man's ideals then don't. But at least try to respect the job he's spent his life doing for the people of Milwaukee.

If he had seen the exchange between Black and some one else he would have been justified as well.

So if Black had asked someone else, if they were _____, and the person answered "yes, do you have a problem with that?", and he shook his head and walked away, you think Clarke would have been justified in having the man detained? You do know that it's illegal to detain anyone without a reasonable suspicion that he's committed a crime or is about to do so, right?

Is there a problem?

Illegal detention, particularly when used to retaliate for a perceived personal slight, is always a problem.

Do you mean that person harm?

If one feels intimidated by a person shaking his head, perhaps law enforcement was a bad career choice.

According to the affidavit, Black told Milwaukee investigators that he spotted Clarke after the men boarded the Milwaukee-bound plane in Dallas on Jan. 15. When he asked Clarke if he was, in fact, the sheriff, and Clarke confirmed it, Black said he shook his head. When Clarke asked him if he had a “problem” with that, Black said he didn’t respond because he didn’t want to get in trouble. Investigators found Black’s account credible, according to the affidavit.

Clarke texted one of his officers to detain Black upon arrival in Wisconsin, according to the affidavit. “Just a field interview, no arrest unless he becomes an ******* with your guys,” Clarke texted, according to a screenshot obtained of the texts. “Question for him is why he said anything to me. Why didn’t he just keep his mouth shut?”

Black was then met by six deputies and two police dogs, according to a complaint he filed against Clarke with the Milwaukee County Executive’s Office. Black was detained and questioned by deputies about “remarks” he had made to Clarke, which Black denied, and then was escorted to a friend’s car to leave the airport.

The affidavit was filed by FBI special agent Jennifer Walkowski, who initially asked that it be sealed, to obtain a search warrant to access Clarke’s emails through Google. It accuses Clarke of using his email account to encourage his staff to attack Black online in posts on the official Facebook page for the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

One post included Black’s complaint with the comment: “Next time he or anyone else pulls this stunt on a plane they may get knocked out.” Such messages, including one calling Black a “snowflake,” were likely either written by Clarke or “he directed his staff to post the messages for him,” states the affidavit.

And now, Sheriff Snowflake will have his day in court to defend what the FBI termed an abuse of his power "as sheriff of Milwaukee County in excess of his lawful authority to direct his deputies to stop and question Black without legal justification.”
