"And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent," Revelation 12:13,14
By these Scriptures is denoted a church hiding in desolate areas from the fury of the persecutor. This cannot be the proud church of Rome which at this time reigned over the kings of Christendom and whose haughty pontiff claimed the power to crown or depose kings. No this haughty power is covered by another symbol- the woman arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication- from Revelation 17:4. The church in the wilderness was the persecuted Waldenses hid from public view in the Piedmont valleys while the eagle's wings signify her speed of flight from her persecutors.

Then you must believe the Rev was written about 400 or 500 AD after Constantine adopted the Christian faith as the state religion.

It was actually written by John as the events of the destruction of Jerusalem was happening. The believers were rescued/removed from the scene for those years so that the church would continue and thrive.
