Police Say Lock Doors, Hide Valuables to Avoid Vehicle Break-Ins

WEBSTER, N.Y. -- Police in Webster said over the past month or two, they have seen a sporadic number of break-ins to vehicles throughout town. It's been the talk of social media among people who live there.

In video given to us by a couple who live on Thrushwood Lane, two men can be seen peering into one of their vehicles and the going through another. Another man in the background appears to be going to other houses on the block. The couple said this video was taken just before 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police said most of the vehicle break-ins have been happening in the early morning hours.

“It appears they’re either going through cars that are unlocked, rifling through, taking change, taking GPS units, whatever is not bolted in and if there’s something in the vehicle of value, they make break a window to steal a laptop of something else that’s in plain view," said Webster Police Chief Joseph Rieger.

Rieger, who also mentioned there have been other similar cases throughout Monroe County, is reminding residents to always lock cars, keep valuables out of sight and call 911 if they notice anything suspicious.
