I won't divert this thread to a discussion about the Papacy. Suffice to say that as with all popes, much of what you hear reported is not rue. Second, he is conservative in areas of morality that matter to the faith such as abortion, gay marriage, etc. He may be liberal in economics and global warming and all that, but those issues are not really part of the Christian faith and have nothing to do with Peter or the Papacy.
I have said this before and I'll say it again: As a conservative, YOU see how the news media lies about us conservatives, maligns us, and perverts the facts every way they can. WELL!!....don't you think they do the same about the Catholic Church? You know the news lies about your politics so don't be so ready to believe them about us. The Catholic Church is still the most powerful force on earth that stands against abortion and gay marriage, and even thought the media has succeed in knocking us down a few pegs in public opinion we are still their prime mortal enemy. One of the reasons I like him. The salient thing about Francis, is that he's solid on those things that are key to faith and morals like chastity, pro-life, and charity, but he treats sin as Jesus did.
He calls sinners to repentance without screaming at them. We always get the Pope we need at the time. Francis is a pastor. And we really, really need a pastor.
