On one hand, the DMV is terrible, but on the other hand, how are people in those counties supposed to get their driver's licenses?

You mean they are actually closing some government agencies in counties that are very impoverished (whose local tax base is quite low and they are having budget issues) instead of cutting police and fire protection, say it isnt so!

Aren't DMV locations run by the state? That is, their budget comes from the state funds while the police and fire budgets come from county/city budgets. If that is the case, this isn't a fair comparison.
Satellite locations are handled by the county.
Read the op. Its just the satellite locations being closed.
Do you really believe that the city of montgomery is intending to have no dmv, when that is the state capitol, it is located in montogomery county and where the head of the dmv for the state is.

I am still pretty suspicious. However, if there are alternatives to renewing that do not require you to go to a brick-mortar (Ktoyou I believe mentioned you can) location, I would be okay with it. The only hassle appears to be if you are applying for a new license and have never had one before or if you are over 65. A hassle for sure, but I am not ready to call foul just yet.
For those who dont know what a satellite dmv location is, its additional side locations placed in places like shopping malls, etc.. for convenience and to lesson the load of the primary agency to assist in things like drivers license renewals and car tags.
A sattelite location is NOT the main dmv locations.
Another example would be being able to get your car tag at the local grocery store.

It is true and no actual dmv location is closing, its only the satellite locations closing - even the rag op article states its the satellite locations closing. (which again are not the main county dmvs but additional convenience locations)

No regular district dmv office is closing, only the side convenience locations (like in malls and stores)

Not true. For generations my family voted Democrat....because Democrat used to be what it no longer is. My folks didn't notice the change that had come over the party. Lots of people just vote for a party out of habit.

They still dont have to transport them to the next county, no actual dmv location closed, only the extra side ones, the local county offices are all still intact.
The writer of the article is lying, disingenuous, or just plain ignorant of what a satellite dmv actually is.

Why remove those satellites in those specific precincts?
To vote in Alabama:
One is required to have one of the following,
-Valid Alabama driver's license or non-driver ID card
-Valid photo voter ID card or other valid ID card issued by any state or the federal government , as long as it contains a photo
-Valid U.S. passport
-Valid government employee ID card with a photo
-Valid student or employee ID card issued by a college or university in the state, provided it includes a photo
-Valid U.S. military ID card containing a photo
-Valid tribal ID card containing a photo
Vote a provisional ballot or vote a regular ballot if s/he is identified by two election officials as an eligible voter on the poll list, and both election workers sign a sworn affidavit so stating. Perhaps you need to read the op again, and then see the actual listing of closed locations. They are closing them all over the state. Only an idiot could see this as a racist thing.
Did you also read that the satellite locations aren't even owned by the state and no actual dmv county OFFICE is closing?
No dmv state office is being closed, only the part time convenience satellite locations are closing. *like that in a grocery store or mall that is part time to alleviate traffic at the local offices for convenience*
