WHY ARE SOME POSTERS SECRETIVE ABOUT WHAT CHURCH THEY'RE AFFILIATED WITH?

I became a born again Christian as a teenager when I repented of my unbelief and trusted in Jesus to forgive me of my sins. Jesus lived a perfect sinless life, was crucified, buried and rose again, and if I believe in this and trust in Him I am saved.

I grew up in a fundamental KJVO IFB* church. They measured the length of women's skirts and men's hair. Ladies were not to wear pants or open-toed shoes. Dancing, movies, pop music, card playing were all "worldly" sins. No mixed gender swimming and the boys had to wear a tee-shirt. A very legalistic congregation.

I now attend a large non-denominational (formerly Baptist) church. So I guess I would be categorized as a Baptist. Not ashamed of it whatsoever. Oh, and unless you couldn't guess I am not a Cal--, a Cal--, a Cal---, ....a member of a Reformed church.

*Independent Fundamental Baptist. And yes, I know I said "fundamental" twice.

Thanks.

Why?... I believe denominationalism is evil.

no 'denomination' fits me.
But wait, you miss out on the weekly or monthly Malachi 3:10 clobbering from the pulpit.

Is anybody ever on board with whole denomination they belong too? Don't we who belong to a denomination think we could a little tweaking to the statement of or this we believe?

It is indeed puzzling and curious concerning the "pile on" to Meshak--especially when she began to quote--verbatim--from the New Testament's verses from Jesus that decry poverty and the marginalization of others.

And unfortunately, mocking Meshak's hat is a clear ignorant and immature way of arguing with Jesus.

Biblical socialism still rules and will always rule.

Stick to the OP or get outta Dodge!

Very good!
We all need to be part of a fellowship even though we don't totally agree with every little thing.

Where do you attend church?

Or have you forsaken (that means quit) going to church?

I don't attend church building. My family is my church. Jesus says where there are two or three gather in His name He will be there.

I don't belong to any organization or denomination because Jesus commands us to be perfect. This is my observation that most churches, if not all, have some kind of gimmicky doctrine or practice. We don't want anything to do with these.

We cannot aim to be perfect if we are with imperfect church.

So, YOU are the epitome of perfection?

The passage you use is often abused by those that refuse to assemble with others in corporate worship to receive instruction, access the ordinary means of grace of Word and sacrament, and be subject to discipline.

The passage in its proper context has to do with church discipline. Regrettably, this usually explains why folks use the passage—they are the ones most likely in need of submitting themselves to the discipline of the church. :AMR:

The passage has zero applicability to the claim that "church" is but the meeting of a couple of believers at McDonald's, Starbucks, etc.

For example, when is the last time you partook of the Lord's Supper administered by one of His ordained servants? If you claim to follow our Lord, then do not be selective in what He taught and what you selectively choose to obey.

I have often publicly observed that underlying the most odd and even heretical views of doctrine spring from those that declare themselves under no Biblical warrant to attend and covenant with a visible vestige of our Lord's Bride. You are but one of the not a few TOL poster childs of my observation. Sigh.
