UN passes ‘unprecedented’ pro-family resolution, outraging sexual radicals

A pro-family resolution has been passed by the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva of “unprecedented” force and reach, thanks to a coalition of African and other developing countries, China and Russia and a support group of socially conservative NGOs.

“This is unprecedented, a tremendous victory for the family,” Sharon Slater, the head of Family Watch International, told LifeSiteNews. “It is the first time ever in the history of the United Nations that a comprehensive resolution has been passed calling for the protection of the family as a fundamental unit of society, recognizing the prior right of parents to educate their children, and calling on all nations to create family-sensitive policies and recognize their binding obligations under treaty to protect the family.”

Surely you're not talking about the same United Nations that less than 1 year ago passed a resolution on behalf of LGBT citizens around the globe are you?

Yep - same one. It just goes to show the power of a united Russia, China, Africa - yikes. Think of the future implications: Russia now takes the pro-Christian, pro-traditional family, anti-gay-radical transgender stance that the US was once known for. BTW-Ireland and the UK voted anti-family; very telling.

So the godless United Nations will be denouncing the United States and this list of countries throughout the world that have enacted homosexual 'marriage' because it now stands for traditional family values?

Since traditional family values doesn't honor any kind of homosexual behavior, will the godless United Nations denounce any country that gives special rights to people who engage in homosexual behavior?

All Russia has to do is ban abortion and they with Latin America and pro family African countries can create a new forum where abortion is recognized as homicide. This would defeat abortion in the US because of the inability for most Americans to accept abortion as homicide.

Ironically, the US government and the UN promote abortion as legal homicide outside of the US. In fact, the US is using Latina America as a proxy to have abortion as legal homicide embraced by a majority, thus strengthening their position to resist challenges of fetal viability.

Russia has put some restrictions on abortion due to demographics (Russian President Putin, who was the former head of the mass murdering KGB, couldn't care less about murder).

You underestimate the power of the LGBTQueer/abortion/sexual anarchist movement here in the US.

You underestimate Putin's desire to have a forum not dominated by the US and the UN. You should read the main Russian News source.

You also underestimate the level of Americans ignorance regarding abortion and whether it really is a homicide. If they were sure it was things would change in the US simply because we claim to be the moral authority of the world. Any country that promotes justifiable homicide of innocent people would never be able to justify it's claim as a moral authority in the world. I am quite aware of American's psyche and it is quite apparent here on this forum.

:idunno:

But what gets me is this statement in the piece, from the "progressives":

Families perpetuate patriarchal oppression, traditions and harmful practices, and…human rights abuses do occur within families (i.e., marital rape, child abuse, FGM [female genital mutilation], early and forced marriage, dowry related violence, so-called ‘honour’ killings and other forms of domestic violence).”

As if abortion, no-fault divorce, molestation by live-in boyfriends and step-dads, single-mother child abuse and murder; step-fathers, day-care, poverty, third-party reproduction, foster care, etc. do not cause harm to children and the social structure. ONLY patriarchy, see? :wave2:

If, indeed, that is the intent and meaning of that resolution, well, even a blind squirrel can occasionally find an acorn

For some reason the op stopped short of quoting this part of the article:

The voting on the “Protection of the Family” resolution was 27 for and 14 against, Slater noted. Those opposing the motion included the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and other Western European countries, while its sponsors included Russia, China, Belarus, and more than a dozen Muslim and African countries.

American fundamentalists sure are running in some surprising circles these days.

Well, the lead in passage in the OP state this clearly,

Wow. Lifesitenews presenting a less than accurate report...what are the odds?

The protection of the family resolution calls for the Commissioner for Human Rights to draft a report on the status of the family and asks for a panel discussion at the September session of the Human Rights Council.

The minor controversy involved an amendment to the resolution for inclusion of all families in the report and panel. The amendment to the resolution read “different cultural, political and social systems various forms of the family exist”

That was it.

The final vote on the amendment was 39 in favor and 14 opposed. The amendment needed 40 votes to pass.

It is noteworthy that the countries opposed to the amendment, the ones conservatives here are praising, are some of the worst violators of human rights - Several of which routinely oppress, arrest and even execute Christians.

Obviously those cheering this don't actually want protections for families

Hmm, no, I don't think so. The UN General Assembly verifies that it has passed.

To consider:

The U.N. Human Rights Council adopted a resolution protecting the family, reaffirming it as the "natural and fundamental group unit of society."

The Center for Family and Human Rights called it a monumental development that calls on all countries to take concrete steps to protect the family and to adopt family friendly laws and policies.

Fourteen countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and several other European nations voted against it, while 29 voted in favor and four abstained.

Much of the opposition stems from gay rights supporters who believe the resolution lays the foundation for opposing LGBT rights under international law.

That's because the resolution doesn't explicitly define family. And efforts to pass amendments with inclusive language highlighting diversity among families failed.
