The person who had "a gun handy" was the shooter. It makes no common sense to allow more people to buy and carry guns beyond a reasonable situation.

I know many conservatives discount or ignore academic and scientific studies, but the reasearch shows us that arming more people leads to more killing and accidental death--and it's the armed folks who are the most in danger.

I read conservative and liberal and independent blogs and magazines. I also watch FOX "News" and liberal sources like CNN.

I am unfraid of hearing new information that can often knock me off my feet. That's one of the few ways I learn. And I am hungry for critcism from others for the same reasons.

We need to start being unafraid about life. We need to pay attention to our talent and ability to be curious. We should strive to be learning... ALWAYS

We should be inveterate and constant readers.

How did you miss these lessons?

If I hadn't watched CNN I would be ignorant of the fact that FOX "News" Washington editor Bill Sammon admitted he made up the label of "Socialist" to call the preseident.

I would not be aware of O'Reilly's sexual immorality or his deliberate lying on the air.

I would also not be aware of the scandals against the left that the right wing brings up.

And I would not have finally come down on the side of ObamaCare if I hadn't found out that folks who said they could not get insurance on the Sean Hannity show were lying.

I'm rather convinced that guns are the actual problem not loonies who may be allowed to freely walk around with them.
Putting more and more guns into a civil arms race and having a gun culture surely cannot be a good thing. It is not what happens here in the UK.
I don't want to feel that I or my neighbours are compelled to be "tooled up" wherever we go. Anyone here found carrying a gun in urban places would be arrested and if I were aware of someone with a gun I would immediately call the police.

So that the "sheep may safely graze"?
A culture cannot be easily changed.
We have no choice but to arm ourselves ... "against the sea of trouble" in which we find ourselves.
Perhaps if we had a caring, intelligent, knowledgeable president willing to care for all Americans we might be able to make some good changes.
The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. did wonders to improve race relations in America but, his successors destroyed much of his progress.

I don't see any easy way for America to change sadly, but if a similar gun culture ever happened here I would see it as a breakdown of civil society not something to be relished. :plain:

Thoughtful, caring people do not relish the climate in America. I have a permitted revolver which I have never touched. My children urge me to go to a gun range to learn how to shoot. Instead I keep pepper spray at the ready and hope for the best.
BUT, I do not turn the other cheek in the face of aggression against me or my loved ones.
I do work at being a good neighbor to all I may encounter. Sometimes a smile and a cheerful word may make the difference in someone's life.
