There is a bigger issue Islam would see it as a national weakness, just as they would see even larger buildings as a sign of strength. Politics is a practical profession, it is about people, not persons.

I'm not going to trample the first amendment because of what some dillholes in a cave in Afgahnistan think about our way of life.
This building as been closed for 9 years and was sold 4 years ago.
It as nothing to do with ground zero, it is not taking anything away from ground zero, and it is not stopping anyone from rebuilding the towers.
It WILL prevent you from reopening the Burlington Coat Factory on that site but they don't seem interested based on the fact that they sold it.

I think both the mosque as well as the Orthodox church which was destroyed should be built. However, I would want to know where this sudden influx of cash (in excess of 100 million) is coming from to build the mosque.

He doesn't have the money.
He bought the building for 6 million 4 years ago and wants to by te one next door to get the foot print for is new thingy.
Once he has an approved plan he can start fund raising and I imagine have a mortgage on the finished facility.
And he doesn't owe anyone an explaination on that either.
If you have charges bring em, you don't get to go on fising trips into peoples finances because you don't worship the same God they do.

The point is we should help them build it out of respect for those people who lost their lives that day and out of respect for the core values that this nation was founded on.

First let me compliment you on your username.

If you had any inkling as to what "values" our nation was founded upon, you wouldn't be an atheist.

So Muslims are building a mosque out of "respect" for those that were murdered? Where did you come up with this (asinine) information?

I don't think so (no more than it would be a foreign target anyway). In terms of domestic terrorism, I don't believe that's the way we should be thinking.

I'm sure the people in Oklahoma City weren't thinking about domestic terrorism. Too bad they didn't think of that.

I know that is is not the reason we did not rebuild, it was our own sentimentality.
Now here is how I see it, the Muslims see that the towers are still down and that is what they perceive a big victory! They think "the US is not so strong, they cannot fix what we have done."

Same with the mosque; it is a sign of US weakness to them; they see strength and fear it, they see any passive tolerance as weakness, as far as I see it.

The way we dealt with Iraq, was strength, until we tried to rebuild the country, then it became weakness. I did not ever agree on going into Iraq; we did so and where we captured Saddam, we should have pulled out, after a public hanging.

This does not mean we should have gone into Iraq, what we should have done is go after ben laddie and his caddies. Now we are in too deep.

The Mosque is just more fuel for their fire!

How about building a floating Zen Buddhist temple two blocks distance from the USS Arizona Memorial? Good taste?

Did you sell the property two blocks away from the Arizona to a Buddhist monk?
Were there Buddhist on the Arizona?
Why can't you guys figure out this analogy thing?
So far the old Burlington Coat Factory that this guy bought 4 years ago has been compared to;
The Washington Monument
The Arizona
I got an idea.
Buy it from him for 100 million and you'll ave you coat store back and he'll have the dough for his center.

No. But he bought this floating houseboat temple thingy and he wants to park it 600 feet from the USS Arizona Memorial.

Were there Buddhist on the Arizona?

Not certain; I doubt it.

But I do know a lot of innocent Zen Buddhists were placed in concentration camps in the U.S. over it.

Why can't you guys figure out this analogy thing?

I thought my analogy was good enough to make the point. :idunno:

No. I altered my analogy to the floating Zen Buddhist temple floating 600 feet from the site of national tragedy where over a thousand sailors lost their lives after being attacked with planes by religiously driven fanatical Zen Buddhists, who likely didn't represent all the Buddhists in the world at that time.

Is there anything wrong with that?

I got an idea.

How about he just gets his money back and whatever profit the real estate market brings him?

Speaking of dillholes

Speaking of dillholes

First let me compliment you on your username.
Why thank you.

If you had any inkling as to what "values" our nation was founded upon, you wouldn't be an atheist.
Pisses you off doesn't it?
We have freedom of religion and I'm not using mine.
So Muslims are building a mosque out of "respect" for those that were murdered? Where did you come up with this (asinine) information?

I didn't say that you did.
I said we should help them build it out of respect for our fellow Americans who were Muslims that died that day.
They are just as dead as our fellow Americans of any other religion and shouldn't have to sit on the back of the bus because some crazies worshiped the same God they do.

But it's not the very same Muslims. These are Americans.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is a supporter of radical islam.

So then you must object to Christian missionaries over in Iraq setting up camp and trying to convert people.
Please, talking about most Christian ministries would not do such a thing. They sure are in Iraq.

That doesn't happen. Iraq is an Islamic republic, and prosyletising is illegal, unless islam is doing it. You are a liar. You are going to hell. Not for your lies, because you are dead. There are catholic Arabs in Iraq that are Iraqi citizens, and that is the extent. Islam is the national religion.

That entire area is going to be under more of a watchful eye than most anywhere else in the country. It's not as if it's just going to be sitting there with a bullseye target pinned on it.

Thinking that the center oughtn't be built because of possibility of domestic terrorism is not in my opinion the way we ought to be thinking. It will most certainly be taken well into consideration if it's built.

Maybe Wallbridge will concoct a scheme to get rid of the mosque.

will you try to explain this to me?

The attacks were meant to fuel hatred, opposition and war. To have a peaceful American Muslim center, where Muslim Americans participate in NYC & America's healing and rebuilding is just the opposite. Those are our values. We can be the pawns the extremists want us to be, participating in feeding hatred fear and violence, caving in on ourselves in that hatred and fear, or we can be strong, determined, consistent in our beliefs. Standing tall.

Which do you think Anti-American extremists would like to see?

They tried to destroy the Twin Towers two times. They succeeded the second time. It was sitting there with a bulls-eye target pinned on it.

Thinking that the center oughtn't be built because of possibility of domestic terrorism is not in my opinion the way we ought to be thinking.

If by that you mean we should not be driven by a fear of terrorism, I agree.

No. But he bought this floating houseboat temple thingy and he wants to park it 600 feet from the USS Arizona Memorial.
Is it legal to park a house boat there?

Not certain; I doubt it.
With that many people there was bound to be one

But I do know a lot of innocent Zen Buddhists were placed in concentration camps in the U.S. over it.
I thought the Japanese were mostly Shinto but whatever.
And
Are you making the "at least we didn't round up all the Arabs and stick em in a concentration camp" argument?

I thought my analogy was good enough to make the point. :idunno:
You're trying to stretch the old coat store this guy bought 4 years ago into floating attack temples in Pearl Harbor.

Knight has them turning the Washington Monument into a mineret.

Are you sure it's not more like a giant antenna of evil on top of the Capital dome?

A porn blimp hovering over the Vatican?

Covering the visible side of the Moon with a portriat of fool eating cheese?

Again;
Is it legal to park a house boat there?

Ticket and tow him.
Ticket and tow everybody needin ticketing and towing.
Coat store, bought it 4 years ago.

How about he just gets his money back and whatever profit the real estate market brings him?
But you're already screwed!
He's had it four years!
He prolly already PRAYED IN THE DAMN THING!!!!!
You're gonna have to remove the whole building and launch it on a trajectory out of our galaxy.

The Cordoba mosque is a Shariah mosque. What is so peaceful about that? Shariah law is anti gay and anti women that do not know their place. If you are in favor of these ideas then it is peaceful. From a previous post:

Follow the Shariah Index Project to solve the puzzle of the 6 mystery floors: We found two hidden websites with copiously deleted information, all about the Imam’s Cordoba Institute Shariah Index Project. For reference, here’s the Imam’s most recent hidden website (also available here as a pdf). And here’s the Imam’s earlier hidden website (also available here as a pdf). The information on those websites – information that the Imam tried to hide with a new whitewashed version – suggests that the six mystery floors of the Ground Zero Mosque will be dedicated to the Imam’s long-term goal: the Shariah Index Project, designed to benchmark Shariah compliance, to distribute Shariah propaganda, and to enforce Shariah law in America and worldwide.......................................

He has the right to speak as he wishes, precisely because of the values on which this nation was founded. Tom Paine was one of those men who made the new nation possible, and he heaped ridicule on religion.

So Muslims are building a mosque out of "respect" for those that were murdered? Where did you come up with this (asinine) information?

They said so. They are your fellow Americans and so far, they are much better Americans than you have proven to be.
