Why Was Paul Baptized With Water?

Ananias told Saul (Paul)"why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22:16).

What was the purpose of this baptism?

Was it not for the remission of sins?

Hi Jerry and some say that Paul was saved under the Kingdom Program, NOT SO , as only Acts 13 and ACTS 28ER BELIEVE THIS !!

There is ONLY ONE verse where it says Paul was baptized !!

In Acts 9:6 Paul replys to Jesus , LORD WHAT DO YOU WISH ME TO DO !!

All have to notice Paul called Jesus LORD !!

What does Rom 10:9 say , That if you should confess with your mouth LORD , JESUS !!

Here Paul called him LORD !!

Turn to 1 Cor 12:3 and it says that NO PERSON is ABLE to SAY LORD JESUS except by HOLY SPIRIT !!
Notice I did not write THE HOLY SPIRIT because the Greek article THE is not in verse and this means that when Paul called Him LORD JESUS , Paul was BAPTIZED with POWER OF HOLY SPIRIT !!

So we see that Paul was BAPTIZED wit HOLY SPIRIT POWER !!

So when does water WASH AWAY SIN !!

Your answer is that OT Apostles RIMITED SINS , in John 20:23 , so how did they REMIT SINS ??

Then your only possible conclusion is, that's salvation by grace through faith + the work of water baptism...exactly what Acts 2 Baptists and evangelicals really believe even if they won't admit it.

Drop the act. You've been seen.

Everyone who has not believed the Gospel of grace is not saved, no matter what else they believe or do.
By that measure, how many professing Christians are on their way to the Lake of Fire?

So you don't believe that Paul was baptized with water even though Ananias told him, "why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22:16).

Submitting to the rite of water baptism was in regard to "service" and not "salvation."

We know that before a person could be baptized with water that person must first believe, as witnessed by the following exchange between Philip and the eunuch:

"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" (Acts 8:36-37).

Before the eunuch was baptized with water he was already "born of God" because he believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God:

"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God..For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?" (1 Jn.5:1,4-5).

There can be no doubt that the eunuch received eternal life and was "born of God" before he was baptized with water so we can know that being baptized with water does not contribute in any way to anyone being saved.

Are you willing to argue that a person can be born of God but yetthat that person isn't yet saved?

It could have been the Holy Spirit.

You still have not even attempted to tell us why Paul was baptized with water. Instead, you try to change the subject as fast you can. And then you accuse me of speaking lies. You should be ashamed of treating others in that manner just because you disagree with their views.

    I will address Mark16:16:

"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned"
    (Mk.16:16).

Here the Lord is not saying that a requirement for salvation is baptism with water, but instead He is describing those who will be saved. This is similar to the following words of the Lord:

"And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life" (Mt.19:29).

Here the Lord says that those who have forsaken their families will receive everlasting life, but surely no one will argue that this is a requirement for salvation. Instead, the Lord is merely describing many who will be saved. Therefore we can understand that at Mark 16:16 the Lord Jesus is merely describing those who will be saved.

We do know that before a person could be baptized with water that person must first believe, as witnessed by the following exchange between Philip and the eunuch:

"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" (Acts 8:36-37).

There can be no doubt that the eunuch received eternal life and was "born of God" before he was baptized with water so we can know that being baptized with water does not contribute in any way to anyone being saved.

Now that I have answered you tell us why Paul was baptized with water.

Hi Jerry and 1 Cor 12:3 says that NO ONE who does not call Jesus is not saved !!

Verse 3 says NO ONE CALLS JESUS LORD EXCEPT BY THE HOLY SPIRIT !!

This means that Paul already had the HOLY SPIRIT before ACTS 22:16 , better read again , Jerry !!

Even in Acts 1:5 shows their are 2 different BAPTISMS #1 John's BAPTISM with WATER and then will begin THE BAPTISM WITH HOLY SPIRIT WITH POWER , notice it does not sat " WITH ( THE ) HOLY SPIRIT as the Greek article (THE ) is Not in the Greek text so that means " with holy spirit " means baptism with POWER !!

This why 1 Cor 1:17 could NEVER BAPTIZE !!

Paul was born of the Spirit (born of God) on the Damascus road when he believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God:

"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God..For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?" (1 Jn.5:1,4-5).

And then after that he was baptized with water.

Ananias told him, "why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22:16).

Do you deny that Ananias was referring to water baptism?

    I will address Mark16:16:

Mark 16:16 reveals your lie. Salvation for Israelites required that submission to the Mosaic ritual per their faith in Jesus as Messiah. They would not be saved without it. He said so Himself.

Drop the act. You're another Danoh.

Here is what the Lord Jesus said to the Jews who lived under the law:

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life" (Jn.6:47).

The Lord Jesus' own words mean nothing to you!
