Agree. I just think we have a hard time assessing why's. As I said too, as far as forums go, many get closed down. It is, I think, I different 'kind' of media that is replacing them (I don't like texting....at ALL! ) .

I remember a few I liked that were banned for other reasons at the time (not liking Open View or MAD). I'd like to see some of those older posters and really, not one of them that "I liked" were misbehavior problems.

There is simply no respect for another's actual values and I think it is VERY appropriate to give infractions for a people that are, imho, worse than Westbro with outlandish and inappropriate behavior. I was happy to help my kids 'if' they could not handle themselves. The hope was that insodoing, they'd learn to eventually learn to actually not be deplorable and detestable on their own. If not? Too childish to be on TOL anyway, imho. Smack doesn't have to mean grade-school, or worse: Middle School!

Often. Right now? Just between times. I'm waiting for the TOL-a-thon.

I think he enjoyed the banter, debate and opportunity to truthsmack.
It wasn't a shot. I appreciate that Knight has a lot of longsuffering and leniency but like to kid him for it sometimes. He has an eclectic group in his heretic list

True. I guess I simply prefer the demeanor and judgement of past mods.
Yes, kind of like preferring certain traffic cops

I can't remember his name, but there was a cabinet guy (Clorox or something - ah, "Purex" ) that had a craft thread. While I didn't care for his liberal theology, it reminded me even then, there is some common ground somewhere. Always good when we can actually find it. I liked Knight's cigar lounge too, though I am no smoker at all. I used to like to smell some pipe tobaccos and cigars, even though I really didn't like to smoke them myself. I enjoy those hobby threads. One, not long ago was started about straight razors. I nearly slit my throat! I finally figured out some of it, but straight razors are NOT for the clumsy! Then I think there was a motorcycle thread. I'm not sure if there was a car thread, but there was a hunting thread, a gun thread, and the like. I did an art thread but not many posted their own pictures.

I think I'd like to see some redux threads where fresh blood debates the same topics some of us debated years ago, just to see how the younger half lives

Other ideas? I don't know, but I've enjoyed visiting other's creativity. Town Heretic is well-rounded in his interests, for interests, and even when adamantly opposed, I think he stimulates a lot of interest. Before him, Knight had a fair hand in a lot of topics and interests on TOL as well, but he has less time as well. I remember too, when mods were all more active in promoting threads and topics proactively too. The POTD POTY threads often spotlighted interesting threads, and some others were popped into "Daily Topic" where daily topic was kept up daily. Those kinds of tasks stimulate daily interest as well.

I 'think' it'd take a coordinated interest and effort to relive those glory days but efforts gone toward other interests would, I think, stimulate similar interest. I just think it has to be a coordinated work and that it would require some time put in.

I'm just that long lost cousin who comes in once a year to the family reunion and tries to talk other family members into investing in his/her newest idea. And who also asks Uncle Joe if he can spot him a few bucks to run up to the convenient store to buy a Colt 45 40oz.
